D'Andre Payne

This is my stance on this subject spelled out to those who like to jump to conclusions-

While I don't think losing these players is the end of the world, I don't see it as a good thing either. As has been stated by others here, we are on the ground floor of the rebuilding process in the toughest conference in college football. At this point any attrition is a hit to that process and sets us back in a competition with programs that just keep getting stronger. Yes, it's true that our rivals all deal with the same thing but they are better equipped to deal with it than we are at this time. In order to catch up in the race we need these defections to lower.

Where my problem lies in this debate is with the ones who immediately go on the attack of anyone who shows concern. We all want this staff to be the one to turn things around and they have shown promise of this in some areas. There are areas that need improving and that's where these debates stem from. Yet, whenever these debates come up, some people get all worked up and start calling for fan cards. Believe it or not, it is possible to support a coach and still question some things about him. I like Jones over all and really hope he does get it, but chanting "Butch gets it" over and over won't make it happen if he's not the one.

The label "negavol" is given to anyone being negative, but I think it should only be given to the trolls on this board (yes, there are those few on the board who don't want to see Tennessee succeed, and they consider themselves "fans"). Having concerns about the team is fine (It's part of being a fan), but if someone's post history is filled with negative comments (even when things are going good) and won't give credit to the team or staff for doing something good, they are the real "Negavols".

So is there anyone who can tell me what exactly is happening with Payne without sifting through 20 pages of garbage?

Payne is apparently leaving because of family issues. There was some concern when he signed that he might be hard to keep around.

Very well put.

This is obviously a place for passionate and sometimes irrational fans. I get just as frustrated as anyone who has followed UT over the last few years. I like being invested in the team and that means I have opinions.

BUT I can't understand the trolls who will carve time our of their day to specifically come after kids who decommit, transfer or are named Josh Dobbs. At some point it always goes past being about athleticism and gets personal (e.g. calling a kid a "bust" or lazy).

I'll climb off the soapbox after this:
The sh!t these kids do is HARD. It's a full time job. AND they take classes. AND a lot of them moved a long way from home only a few months ago. AND most of you never good enough to do it yourself.

Next poster who calls a kid a "bust" should have to list their job title, salary and years on the job. Let's see what VolNation makes of your professional progress.

You can drop the "son" act, as I'm not your son and I'm not some teenage kid.

Guess you missed where I said a lack of skill set. That means the skill set to play the position he's currently in, not what he may or may not have been recruited to play. But then again reading comprehension isn't your strong suit. Am I right?

Please stop. I like your Florida analysis in conjunction with the book Muck. I don't like the Tenn analysis thus far though.

FTR, the book "Muck City" is a New Yorker's over exaggeration of the dimness and culture of the region. It'll never be mistaken for Palm Beach, but nor is it on par with a remote village in a 3rd world country as Mealer paints it to be.

Hard for outsides to understand the dynamics of the Muck unless you've lived there like I did

Haven't been yet, but I guess there's a first time for everything.

And I figured 'son' was way more PC than what you really are to me.

You made some dumb half assed assessment of a kid playing out of place by insinuating the coaches not developing him being part of the problem. No reason to reposition yourself now kid.

No more free passes for Jones. He recruited these players and in the end he is responsible. I am tired of hearing excuses. We cannot say we had a top 5 class at this point. Losing 5-6 of the 4 star players has reduced the 2014 class to a mediocre level. That is the reality, you either keep the players or you give up saying it was a top 5 class. Excuses as to why it happened are irrelevant. Good for discussion but irrelevant.

How does that saying go....? Something about being silent and your intelligence may be questioned but if you open your mouth you remove all doubt. Something like that...

I dont use it as an excuse, transfers happen. Deal. No excuse in that concept.

I don't think it's a good thing either, but it happens. If a kid decides knox is not for him, it's better they leave. Otherwise they may turn into a lockeroom cancer because they hate where they are. Moreover, they won't help out as much in recruiting which is vital and where most recruits get their real info about how it really is once the recruitment period is over.

If I've read correctly, some really smart guy practically keeps the program afloat with his money. He's a season ticket holder and travels to away games. He's rich I know and he will tell you too. Oh yeah, he donates his money too but he calls it blowing his money. Also, he apparently attends practice and knows for certain which players are good enough to compete for starting positions.
Oh yeah you asked about Payne, I have no idea.

Guess you can't read very well. Or you have an agenda. Or a combo of both. The latter is most likely. Otherwise you would have seen where I said my contributions to the program and university are meager. You and the others in the peanut gallery think that if one raises concerns or questions the direction something's going it means they want the program and CBJ to fail. Thats a cult line of thinking and I attempted to "prove" that thought process doesn't hold water with me. The easiest way to stop the support is to stay away, not continuing to show up.

I know you're trying to be a smartass about me attending practice but tell me where I said anything about Payne should be starting. Everyone who has dismissed the transfers, yourself included, have insulted the kid's talent. I have no idea if Payne would've seen the field over the next 3 years had he stayed. I do know that one year in the program isn't sufficient for anyone on this board to make that call though. You got one moron in here saying they recruited over him already with Moseley and Gaulden when the three are in the same class. Point is, none of us know if Payne is good enough to play at this level yet the armchair coaches arrive in full force everytime a kid transfers. You don't see the irony in your own post.

I don't see the problem with this. The coaches see him day in and day out. If they felt like he couldn't help them going forward and suggested he move on, I've no problem with it. Or if the kid just didn't like the coaches, didn't like the area, had family issues that made him feel a change was necessary, that's fine, too. Sometimes the "fit" isn't good. Players come and go. Coaches come and go. It's part of the game....at least the one I've been following for 50 years. UT will be fine. Payne will be fine.

Butch was in a bad spot. He signed 32 and is signing another 25. That is 57 players the coaches do this for a living and had to have known they would have attrition. If they all stayed we would have problems again in a couple years. I am sure these Type A personalities were sold on playing time and when they were beat out they had to make a tough choice.

I am glad Butch is changing the culture and it seems like Butch will not be satisfied until UT is feared. I believe some on this forum would rather the team not have kids leave and lose games.

For those who are worried maybe you should ask Butch to instead of creating a competitive environment to sign backups who won't push for a starting job?

Instead I believe Butch is going to return TN to the top with competitive players who are willing to work for it. Hopefully the Energy Vampires on VN will quit or learn to love Butch Jones's "Process" !! Go Vols !!! Beat Iowa!!!

If there is something about the post you can debate then give it a try. Otherwise your comments are worthless.

3500 people are online. You could impress them. If you aren't up to it we understand.

We had a troll write this book last year...Kiss A Top 25 Class Goodbye...wondering if you know the author?...or are you him with a different pen name?...Of no importance, what is your ultimate desperate agenda? Get us to despair? Abandon our team en masse? Not going to happen , but feel free to repeat this monotonous drone...we've dealt with you or those like you many times...it'd be almost funny if you had a personality.
