I firmly believe when a guy checks out in his head it is time to go. If people watched the number of games I do they would know that Votto's head is not in it and Dusty watched him do it without doing anything. It showed up badly in the field. Move that kind when they are peaking or shortly thereafter. Perception of their ability is at its highest. In Votto's case in 2015, if he doesn't return to form this season. Grant his wish and get some value while you can.

Apparently a .291 BA and a .932 OPS isn't clutch.

Also, a 1.067 career OPS with RISP makes you a head case.

you can tell something is wrong with him. don't know if he is pressing or not on his meds or what. i know when the game is on the line and they need the big hit, he is a sure out. that was the case last year, hopefully he gets his head on straight.

If you believe in CLUTCH (semi silly anyways), but if you, don't be complaining about a 1.067 career OPS with RISP.

Also, I don't need to watch to see if he does well with RISP. That's like I need to watch every game to see if he can take a walk or hit home runs. It isn't defense or even base running.

like i said, i knew you didn't watch any or you would understand. in the 9th when the reds needed a base hit last year or even late in the game when the reds needed a base hit, votto was a no show. what was worse is his at bats were terrible, looked like he didn't have a clue. maybe we got spoiled from from years past with him, but damn he looked bad in those situations last year.

also ask aroid and yankee fans if clutch hitting is silly. i think they would disagree. when the pressure is on some rise and others fall, votto failed horrible in pressure situations last year. in the field as well.

Votto (525 PAs) was (considerably) better than Bruce (541 PAs) with men on base and/or with men in scoring last season... 144 wRC+ compared to Bruce's ~115.

In "high leverage" situations, Votto's did dip to a 118 wRC+, compared to Bruce's 141. However, that is 89 PAs for Votto and 74 for Bruce. Bruce did outperform him, but in a hardly representative sample... which is why it is usually best to just look at who is the better player. Votto's 156 wRC+ (t-5th in baseball) bests Bruce's 117 (t-53rd).

when it comes down to it, i would rather have bruce up there. votto looked bad when it was time to make his money.

dude last year in the eighth or ninth inning with votto up you might as well turn the tv off. the outcome was a poor at bat. I believe any logical person that watch the reds last year would agree.

so far haven't seen it. the guys on baseball tonight were stating the same thing we have been saying. one said votto is a good ball player but it's a lot of money to be paid for basically a lead off hitter. I agree.
