Da Reds thread

The Rats are clearly on their game tonight, while the Reds have their usual if this is Friday we must be in Pittsburgh look.

Hurdle had fun with that. He was not leaving without getting tossed to give the fans what they wanted.

Votto is embarrassing. I still cannot stomach that $20+ mill per year price tag. Frazier with his $500 K a year has as many RBI's and plays better D. Doesn't have the OBP, but so what with Hamilton on his way to CF next season. Trade him and sign a couple of really strong players with that $19.5 mill left over.

The ejection had little to do with playing to the home crowd. Have lost track of the amount of time Hurdle has been thrown out in that situation both home and away in his 3 years here. Has always been big on if you think he hit the guy on purpose throw him out, and if you don't think he hit the guy on purpose then don't warn both benches.

I really wish Votto was as bad as you guys make him out to be and not hitting game winning home runs on us

He doesn't get the chance without the bottom of the order pulling out. And trust me, each one of the game winners this season have cost about $5 mill each.

Maybe you need to appreciate him more often

I did pre-injury. Even gave him the benefit of the doubt at the end of last season. But this year the guy's head has not been in the game over half the season. Not just hitting either - base running and D has been really poor.

Obviously they will not trade him despite the whining I do. I just don't want him to turn into another Junior.

By the way - love the rationalizations with the stats. OBP, BA, etc. mean nothing without RBI. Nothing. Zero. Losses. No team owner pays 10 year contract money for OBP. It's nice and sets the table. But the long term big money contracts are for run producers for good reason.

This one is for you 005.

You're wrong dude.

In so many ways. You're wrong on what gets contracts. You're wrong on what produces runs.

Joke, dude.

How many everyday players making $20+ mill per year have 71 RBI's or less at this point?

Good thing RBI's is a dependent on teammate stat.

I mean, you act like Votto sucks with RISP. He's has a .302/.487/476 line!

No. They are for the best players in baseball.

Votto is one of the 15 best players in baseball and brings a multi-dimensional skill set. He's the best in the league at getting on base, he has some power (not a ton, but enough to justify his contract), and solid defense (although you claim that has sucked lately. I haven't watched enough Reds games to make an accurate statement on that, although advanced metrics like what he has done this year).
