Da Reds thread

What do you think - sign him or not? The price is going to be steep and they would have to unload a guy or two. Love his production and stamina.

Choo brings what this team needs. I have thoroughly enjoyed having him on this team and would love to keep him. But he is a boras client. Don't think billy is ready offensively to replace choo's obp just yet and I still feel he needs another year in AAA. With that said I would much rather have choo then some of the other stupid signings that have happened for example with ludwick. I am on the wait and see fence, but I just don't think we can keep him. But I could live with a scenario of having choo in left and billy in center. Dusty would have a serious conundrum in terms of making out that lineup, but he screws everything else up anyways.

No chance we keep him in my opinion. The amount of years he is going to want will be a dealbreaker. We can't afford to sign him for 5 or 6 years.

You have to watch the team play every day over years to truly understand how and why Dusty has not been able to win a WS ring as a manager. It comes down to his analytical decision making lacking something IMO. Add in having a personal agenda driven preference for the vets. In other words, he gets in his own way IMO.

Afraid I am going to have to agree on Choo. I like the LF scenario - but I also see a potential line-up issue with too many lefties in the top half. Other than BP there are no righties with any production to amount to anything to offset. I agree on the contract - after having such a good year in the NL, Choo is going to be a hot commodity with a tough agent. I just hope Walt and Bob land a strong right handed bat that can play LF or 3rd. I cannot see betting the future on Luddy or Frazier getting it going. I really like Frazier's glove and attitude, but he is going to have raise that BA 30+ points next season and that is a big question mark.

Maybe a one game burn out in the WC will do the trick.

Probably not. You know, management really just took the year off this season. Ownership on down the line except for Price and his right hand guy.

Management really sat on their ass bringing Choo to Cincy right?

Wasn't that trade made before the season started? Like December? :eek:lol:

Management sat on their asses all season. Even with Luddy hurt the first day.

Who were we going to trade? Our system was totally depleted in obtaining Choo and Latos. To blame this season on management is absurd. Never have the Reds been this stocked with talent on the big league club and it is because of management working to improve the club. At some point, the players gotta play and make plays.

This is one time I do not totally disagree with you. You make some good points. I disagree on the stacked comment in light of the Elite Eight celebration held recently.

If they are as stacked as you say on the parent club, then you give up Soto, Lutz, Ondrusek, etc. for a decent .275 hitter/75 RBI guy that played adequate D in LF. With Cingrani's emergence and Cueto's expected return for September, Bronson or Leake with fillers for a LF and a lesser starter even works by the trade deadline. You even throw in Heisey to make a deal that gives you what you need in left with a starter to replace any you give up even if they are not all that great. Maybe they did and struck out - but the media reports throughout the season indicated that was not on the table. I get the impression they didn't like the offers and none of us will ever know what they were.

Truthfully they bet on the come in LF when Luddy went down. They rolled the dice by sitting pat and lost when Heisey was injured and couldn't get it done.
