Cyberpunk 2077

Gangs are businesses and own businesses. As a street kid character, don't get how I can't start my own gang or storefront operation. Can't even buy a different apartment or sell a car. I get you're supposed to be within a role, but it's very restrictive. Jmo.
I'm sorry, but V the street vendor just doesn't make sense at all. (spoilers) yeah I am dying, but lets make sure the storefront looks nice, and where's that shipment of synthmeat?

its the Witcher set in another universe.

the reason people didn't care about the restrictions in the Witcher is
1: marketing, CPDR definitely oversold with the commercials but other things like Night City Wire provided good, actual content. unfortunately people didn't educate themselves on what they were buying.
2. Witcher gameplay and storyline were good to great. Cyberpunk lost both of those edges, not bad, but not great-going back to 1. they just don't sell the plot well enough to make Cyberpunk a good enough storyline to get lost in. The Witcher is a very believable storyline.
3. Character interaction was great in the Witcher. even though Geralt was restrictive (far more than V), you had secondary characters that mattered. In Cyberpunk there aren't any real characters that matter to V or the storyline. even if it is just side quests.

One rather significant, but simple imo, change to the storyline that would have sold a lot better is if its Jackie stuck with the chip and you spend the game trying to save him. nothing in the plot ever really says V is in danger, with most other characters not even knowing V is dying.

IDK. I feel like Cyberpunk was very close to be a really good game, to the Witcher 3 level. but fell short almost across the board. and when you are fairly close the numerous failures seem worse than they might have if the game had zero publicity.

Agree with all this. The world is canonically inflexible but it is not well explained except on shards you can pick up. It isn't a capitalist state of affairs, but corporate feudalism. All the gangs in city are just extensions of one corp or another, and those outside the city have to play the corps against each other to get any traction.

Overall, I blame the bosses at CDPR for messing this up. Their devs will make this a great game in a year or two I think.

Many of us have had bosses go into meetings with the money people and basically tell them whatever the hell they want to hear without asking anyone who knows stuff whether it is possible. At one place I worked our brave leader made promises, then met with the the marketing team to iron out a strategy, and when the tech team heard about what he'd promised it was during a powerpoint with the marketing team. But what he'd promised was not possible with current technology.

Another interesting thing is the gigantic worldwide financial impact of these games. There is actual incentive to pump up a game, then undercut it on release and short the company, then go all in when the price is low and later on the game is suddenly "fixed" and the company is getting praised to raise the stock when a lot of the stuff that didn't work wasn't actually fixed. CDPR played right into that trap. Gamers are starting to get into that loop though as with the GameStop debacle.

oh yeah the admin effed up hard. I have no issue with people getting refunds, I believe they deserve it with what I have seen from consoles.

but that just reinforces the mastery of the PC race.

I managed to snag the PS4 steelbook edition of this at Best Buy during their "10 games for 10 bucks for 10 days" deal. Since the next gen upgrade on this game will be free, I figured it was a no-brainer. However I'm not even going to open this until that upgrade is available.

1.3 is supposed to contain some of the free content. But so far its cosmestics and not content. Emo look for silver hand, some new jackets, new car.

Doesnt even budge the needle a little for me.

Me to my kid still playing Cyberpunk 2077 a year after the release (basically just likes to drive around the city, especially in the rain):

Damn, you haven't finished the game yet.

My kid to me:

That's ok, neither has CDPR.

I'm going to be laughing on that one for a while.

I agree with your kid. Had way more fun driving around then anything else.

The next gen patch is finally coming along with several other fixes/updates! I have an unopened copy of this game that I've been waiting to play when this update finally arrived!

Patch 1.5 & Next-Generation Update — list of changes

Patch 1.5 is coming soon to PC, Stadia, and consoles.

It brings various improvements to the game, numerous quest and gameplay fixes, as well as a number of free DLCs. On top of that, it contains the next-generation update, which will allow Cyberpunk 2077 to take advantage of the additional power of the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation®5 hardware.

Here’s what the update brings to each platform:

Below you can find the list of the most notable changes coming in this update.

NEXT-GEN EXCLUSIVES

  • Added ray-traced local light shadows.
  • Implemented native achievement support on next-gen consoles. Note that as the next-gen version has a different SKU, PlayStation trophies obtained in backward compatibility will not be transferred. Xbox achievements will automatically appear on the new version using the Smart Delivery feature.
  • Introduced two graphics modes on PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X:
Performance Mode
Ensures smooth gameplay at 60fps with dynamic 4K scaling.

Ray Tracing Mode
Provides photorealistic shadow and reflection rendering as well as gameplay at 30fps with dynamic 4K scaling.

  • The Xbox Series S version has no graphics mode selection and is by default presented at 30 FPS in 1440p with dynamic resolution scaling.
  • Added performance improvements which significantly decrease the number of FPS drops and improve rendering quality.
  • Balanced HDR to achieve parity across all platforms.
  • Various visual quality improvements.
  • Added Activity Cards for PS5.
  • Added Spanish voiceover support in the Americas (PlayStation codes: CUSA-16596 and CUSA-16597). Due to technical constraints, it is available only on next-gen consoles. For further details on language support see: Xbox, PlayStation.
  • Implemented support for spatial audio on PlayStation 5 for 3D-audio-enabled headphones and built-in TV speakers via PS5 's Tempest 3D AudioTech solution.
Implemented the use of adaptive triggers on PS5 controllers.
  • Haptic feedback is now customized based on in-game activity.
  • The controller's built-in speaker is used for holocalls, text messages, and everything that happens in V's head.

Looks like the big update for the new consoles is imminent
Have they actually given a date? I still want to do another play thru, but wanted to get the patch first. One article said the patch was almost 50gb!

*edit, its live now. Or at least the DL is. Its "just 43gb"

Well first impression of this patch is they unoptimized the crap out it.

I was running ultra ray trace with no fps drops under 60. Now it chugs on medium ray trace barely above single digits.

Turning off ray trace gets me into the 30 fps range.

Havent had any issues with other games.

Got a bargain bin copy for PS5. So many little improvements really add up. Love how the adaptive trigger on the controller releases exactly like a clutch when you are on a motorcycle. They would have saved themselves so much pain if they’d held the console versions until this patch.

Idk even with ps4 save wizard that can give me max everything and basically make the game grind proof.. I still don’t like it at it’s core. They should’ve cut a lot of stuff.

I totally get that. Racing was pure awful, and boxing missions should have been cut too, just to name some obvious ones. I’m not sure some of those set pieces would have added anything even if well executed.

Still, I find it fun as hell just to pop in for a mission or two as a steam valve game. The base structure of a great game is here. I’ll definitely play the expansion if they ever finish it. Lol.

My issue with racing was I was either getting smoked or blowing them out. It was pure vehicle based racing.

Boxing was just never a big enough part to be justified in dumping perks into it. Unless you went with a unarmed build.

My biggest issue with the game is the character development they do have has zero impact on the game. Your best friends with a guy after 2 playable entry missions? And you are supposed to feel terrible when he dies?

All of the romance options you get to do their unique mission regardless of your romance status?

Johnny is always just a voice in your head. Not nearly enough interaction for him to matter.

And the world is just not edgy enough. One red light district? With one male hooker and one female? Cant watch any of the BDs (another thing they could drop without impact). There are three edgy missions? Finding Evelin, rescuing Rivers nephew, and the religious nutjob. That's not nearly enough.

I agree it's fun to pop in and play, I dont care a bit about the storyline. Q

Edgy is dead. GTA V removed “transphobic” missions. Expect GTA VI to be very safe as well. If you’re hoping for a game to push boundaries the way they did in the early 00s, getting sued by Jack Thompson left and right… I’m sorry, but it’s not happening.

Good observations. Those missions show what this could have been story-wise. Since CDPR is going to a new engine after the expansion maybe they move in a new direction. They seem to say things like "We are committed to the Cyberpunk franchise." But they don't say, specifically, "Cyberpunk 2077". I'm cool with that as a do-over might be for the best. Keep V and Johnny to cameo status at most. The world is where the potential rests.

Also, for the future versions there needs to be improved cyber ninja sword play. There are a number of gang-goons who will speed at you with a katana and blades for legs and it looks badass but it is just for show sadly. This really stands out now that the AI is patched to make enemies better at shooting together and using cover, but they all look like the girl in PE softball who doesn't want to break a nail when gripping a bat or sword.

No really stand out boss in the whole game. Two cyber-psychos were really cool, but those aren't bosses. Adam Smasher was DOA. Hopefully he's patched now at least and can put up a fight.

I am usually a completionist, so by the time I show up to any boss fight it's over anyway.

I thought the japanese bodyguard fight was amazing, great cat and mouse if you arent high leveled. And he was a good balance of range, melee, and cybernetics imo. But yeah the rest were pretty boring.

I have so many ways they could retcon the storyline to make it make sense and be fun.

I will say the one thing I would be excited for in a DLC is the Peralezes(spelling?) storyline. That one was so dang good with the question of the husband vs everyone at the end with the whole mayoral campaign still in question.

Yes. That fight and mission was what I had hoped a ton of the game would be like.

Side note: the same actor who played Sekiro was that ninja, which made me chuckle when I realized the best boss had a From Software tie in.
