a couple months ago, i finally cut the cord completely, and got rid of direct tv. i went to sling tv. functionally, i liked it better than PSVue and Directvnow....just a personal preference. i did like that both of those had the local networks though. that was a plush. didn't care for the on demand features. they're all pretty comparable channels and price wise.
i only get the local fox network on sling, and use antennae for other locals, and so far, it's not been a huge deal.
i signed up for psvue and directvnow and sling all at the same time for the free trials to see which one i liked the best.
and they all had features that i liked. ultimately i went with Sling because i liked the interface, love the on demand features it has with the networks it has. almost eliminates the need for a DVR all together....almost. so if you like your DVR function, it may be better to find one like Hulu that offers that service. what i researched on stand alone DVR's, it seemed it could get pretty expensive and quirky with how some of them had to be set up, or others that were a little more user friendly and familiar to what you might be used to with cable/satellite DVR, require a subscription service, so i just scrapped the DVR idea all together. with all the replays SECN does, and you tube, if i want to re watch a game, i'm pretty confident i can find it. otherwise, between the on demand features in Sling, or having access to whatever apps you want, generally i can watch old episodes or get caught up pretty easily.
the only thing i really miss is the ability to pause and rewind live tv. didn't realize how much i used that until i didn't have it. but not a deal breaker.
so, i did the blue/orange and sports pack, $50/mo...Netflix $10/mo...HBONow $13/mo...and Amazon Prime video essentially $10/mo....$83/mo for everything compared to when it was at it's peak with DirectTv (HBO/NFL Ticket/Choice Extra) $250ish/mo......
kind of a no brainer. especially when ATT put the fiber optic in the neighborhood. was able to drop cable internet @ $73/mo, and lan line phone $65/mo, and go to ATT internet phone and fiber for $65/mo....and my internet speed tripled.
total savings well over $200/month all together.
i did spend a little extra and got 2 roku premiers +, and 3 HD antennas with boosters, so i spent about $300 up front on the equipment, but i'll get that money back in a couple months.
if your internet speeds can support streaming multiple devices at once, i highly recommend cutting the cord. what service you use, it's just personal preference. Sling gives me all the sports i want (all ESPN, ESPN3/SECN content, Fox sports, NFL Red Zone, NFL network, NHL network, GOLF channel), and the networks available were the only ones i watched on DirectTV anyway. the only channel it doesn't offer yet that i still want is Discovery. but i cheated and use my brother's direct tv account to access DiscoveryNOW app......
the only other drawback is if you and yours watch different tv's a lot, i think Sling only allows 3 streams at once...so if you are going to watch in the living room, kids on ipad(s), spouse somewhere else, it can limit how many can watch at one time....but again, we don't have that issue....so sling still was the choice.
last piece of advice i'd give is when you're choosing what device you're going to use to stream...make sure it's got a good processor. even if you have great internet speeds, if your streaming device doesn't have a good processor, you'll still experience slow uploads and loading times. something i learned the hard way.

i've been very pleased with the Roku premier and premier +....the + has an ethernet port on it, so you can plug it directly in to your router/modem, and it doesn't affect the wifi....as opposed to those devices that ONLY run on wifi signal.
