Crompton's comment after the game...

Being critical is one thing, and having a discussion is another, but the way that you talk to people sometimes is what bothers me.

Also, if you didn't call me silly then explain the last sentence in your post of Post #21.

I like discussing things on here because everyone has a voice, although some people just don't respect other's opinions.

Again, there is nothing wrong with what he said. It seemed to mirror the Wilson comments I saw posted on this board.

I don't think though that Wilson's comments meant any disrespect to any fan in here because he loved the fans when he was here and it showed by his attitude. The thing that gets me with Cromp is the fact he doesn't understand yet just how much of his life has been taken care of by the fans of this great university. I bleed ORANGE as do many people on here, but it bothers me and others that Cromp's attitude and mouth doesn't match what he does on the field and then when someone questions him about the fans he just says we don't worry about them and we just play for ourselves. That's a pretty selfish statement to make since I make sure to watch him play every time this team takes the field just like I watch everyone else play. I sacrifice time with my family and spend my hard earned money just to root his goofy butt on.

If you think my opinion is silly then don't criticize it, just ignore it since it holds no water with you. I don't criticize you or call you a moron or silly when you post your opinions.

I think it was more of a defense of Crompton. You painted a pretty negative picture of the guy.

In my defense, I don't think that I have had to produce many strokes on that picture for it to be painted at this point in time.

You can say what you want about his talent, but the guy is all Vol. He's trying his best out there. Listening to that comment he made... about trying to play for his teammates... almost sounds like something a leader would say. How many more threads am I going to see about Crompton not being a leader?

Just being "All Vol" doesn't make everything alright and he gets a pass for trying. If he wants to be a leader then he's going to have to step up his game to show that he is the leader. It's all about the bottom line right now, and the bottom line is that Cromp looks like a Conference USA QB.

Like I said, I'm not going to defend his play on the field. Your original post made him out to be some jerk that doesn't care that he's not getting the job done. I'm sure it's killing him that he can't do any better.

He's a jerk for making the comments about who he plays for. If he don't think that we are connected with this team just like his teammates are, then he's in for a rude awakening when he sees Neyland 1/2 to 3/4 full based on the product he is part of on the field. He may ignore us and I don't have a problem with that, but I do have a problem with the disrespect towards the people who support this team.

"We play for our football family, and that's each other". Wow, what disrespect.

Who's each other?? Are we somehow not a part of this football family as well?? I didn't know that the 100,000 people that go to the games weren't part of the family. My apologies, it's all about the players playing for themselves. What are we step cousins?? I thought that all my fellow brothers and sisters of the Volnation were somehow all a part of each other.

To me that's like a soldier saying he fights for the person next to him, not the politicians back home. Different level, alltogether, but the same point.

The players are out there playing for each other. Sure, they're there to win, but when they win or lose, it's the guys on the field that they win and lose with. We, the fans, get an opportunity to watch and cheer. If I played and someone asked me how I felt about the boos, I'd say the same thing. We've all done sub-par jobs at some point in our lives, and we'd probably crack if people just booed us everytime we messed up. It's putting a lot on the kids to boo them when they don't perform. Don't say "they're meant for the coaches, not the players." That's like saying the atomic bomb was for the military factories, not the civilians.

There's plenty to criticize without jumping on every word our players say. What do you want to hear? If he says nothing, he's a prick. If he says the boos affected him, he's weak. If he says they didn't, he's an idiot. Come on, people.

I think our team should just refuse to talk to the media for the rest of the year, that way we don't have anything to harp on them for. They really can't win. Reminds me of a saying, damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Maybe he does feel bad I don't know what's in his mind but some of his comments he's made sounds like he's taking the ostrich head in sand path and the fans being frustrated see that as indifference.

Where did he say he didn't play for the fans? He said we play for each other. Did he say, "we exclusively play for our teammates and everyone else can go to hell"? If not, then give him a damn break. 100,000 people just booed his ass. Most of us would have let loose an expletive-laden condemnation of all Vol fans in that situation. He's just trying to keep his guys together and urge them to keep playing hard for each other.

The guy is competitive as hell, otherwise he'd be sliding, not getting his helmet knocked off trying to gain an extra half yard. He's out there doing his best and something makes me think you might miss him if he gets injured.

He maybe trying to do that, but sometimes he just doesn't need to say anything at this point in time that can be taken out of context. I'm not the only one that thinks he meant something different than what you think he meant.

You're not the only one looking for a scapegoat for a crappy season. It happens every year UT does poorly. Kelley Washington in 2002, Gerald Riggs in 2005, Jon Crompton in 2008.

It's the entire teams fault. Cromp is only one player yes, but he's our starting QB and the offense takes it personality from him.

If they take their personality from him than I like the comment even more. Don't worry about these boos, guys. We're in it for each other. Let's win the next one. I mean, when you think about it, who is Crompton's best friend these days? I have no idea who it is, but I'd be willing to bet it's one of these guys he spends hours and hours every week sweating and working his ass off with. I doubt it's some random person in the gigantic orange blur of humanity that is Neyland Stadium. It's only natural he'd mention wanting to play for his closest friends.

That maybe true, but sometimes the best thing to do is not to say anything at all in a time of HIGH emotions.

Then you have someone starting a thread about what a jerk/baby/moron he is for not even responding.

I would rather not have anything to take our of context than to have him give me something that can be. First rule of PR, it's not how much you say but what you say that can spark a frenzy.

I'd imagine Crompton doesn't really give a crap what people think that might interpret his comment in that fashion.
