Crompton QB thread (merged a lot)

I say stick Jones at QB, get some tips from Paul Johnson, and pull out the flexbone against Auburn.

crompton celebrating after he scored made me sick. good job cromp we were down 27-0 and its in the 4th. then him talking smack after he got lit up drove me nuts. i think honestly this guy has no brains

“There’s probably not anybody happy with me right now,” Fulmer said. “There’s probably not anybody happy with the quarterback right now. In this case, I said from the beginning, it’s my responsibility and I’ll take that.
“A couple of things I’d probably boo, too,” he said.

The Florida fan that put the pic of Crompton up with the pic of the "deer in headlights" below Crompton was so right.

Crompton does not look off his receivers, but maybe that his method, I don't know. It would be no worse trying a different QB. The coaches and other people talk of Crompton as a scrambler, but I have yet to see some real scrambling.

Maybe this ankle thing IS worse than what the coaches are telling us, but if so, maybe they need to try a different QB. I want options!

what are you talking about? cromp is a smart qb, don't u rem. when it was 3rd and 17 he decided to take off and run. blows my mind

Crompton sucks. Not sure what he has done to solidify the quarterback job, but seriously, how bad does it have to be before we do something? Thats what pisses me off about this coaching staff, we are not proactive. We only change when things are at the absolute worst. Anyone successful in life envisions and accepts change, not fear it.

I agree. I said to a buddy of mine he needed to just go back to the sideline and quit acting happy about scoring while we are getting thumped. Shows he's more happy about his personal accomplishments than the overall teams'.

Crompton is making Ainge look like an All American!

I think when Crompton scrambles he is a better QB then when he is just a drop back passer. His legs could be a weapon that is not getting utilized

I'd agree with sitting him if we had anything better behind him, but Stephens and Coleman are two project qb's and not ready to step in.

They need a qb who has the ability to avoid the rush. We haven't had a starter since Martin that could reliably take off when a play broke down.

Yeah we have talent. In the same way, Cops have bullets for their guns, but if they're getting shot at and don't ever use them, they're no good.

Crompton is not ready for prime time. If thats all we got, it's going to be a long 2 yrs for Vol football fans!

We're screwed with Crompton. If Clawson tailors the offense to 'what Jonathan does best'---which is what I'm hearing from the hosts of these call-in shows---that just makes us that much more predictable.

If Crompton had spent the last two years getting better rather then pouting about his opportunities, maybe he would be a better QB.

Crapton is the worst Ut qb ive ever seen. For a new starting qb that was a highly rated recruit out of high school and also has a redshirt year and 2 other years of practice under his belt could not have come into a better situation, yet he still SUCKS! He makes the last 7 ut qb's look like all americans, not just ainge. To describe the stacked situation he walked into this year:

Veteran O-line with solid backups (great pass blockers)
Great Backfield - 3 maybe 4 capable SEC Backs (Although ive lost most confidence in Foster)
Deep and experienced receivers ( yes they are mostly slow but still solid group)

Despite all of these attributes to UT's BS "clawfense" Crompton always looks like he doesnt even know what the the play call is or what routes his receivers are running. If he does manage to get it right, he makes a terrible throw to the other team or to the back of a lineman's helmet. When is enough enough. Phil.. please go.. im on my knees begging for a new look instead of the same old BS Offense that looks like the same 5 plays over and over. I hate watching great talent go to waste year after year. at least the titans are doing good, o and yea they benched their qb that was stinking it up (VY) who looks eerily similar to crapton except he can actually scramble....

We have a new offensive coordinator,a new starting quarterback. Give them a little time before you start calling for their heads. Its the SEC, I dont believe there is a tougher place to introduce a new coordinator and quarterback. If we beat Auburn and Georgia, most of you will be back on the bandwagon. I totally agree right now the offense is garbage. If we eliminate the self inflicting mistakes, the offense wouldn't be that bad.

Wow, get use to it! This is what you UT fans get! You guys will never see dynamic athletes at UT like Florida's anytime soon. I bet you guys wish you had a Jimmy Clausen or T. Price type QB up there. Man, does Golden Tate look good at ND! These are dynamic athletes UT could have had. They've seen what has happen to dynamic athletes like Brett Shaeffer and Lamarcus Coker. Alot of these young athletes in Nashville are taking notice and taking there talents elsewhere. Good luck the rest of the way out...I appreciate all that they have done for my nephew David...

Huh?

1. Crompton can't hit the broad side of a barn when he rolls-out/scrambles.

2. When Crompton leaves the pocket, he seems to always make the wrong decision as to whether to run with it, throw it, and where to run, and who to throw to.

Rolling out makes the decision process so complicated, his head explodes.....and then we punt.

Change is needed. We have other QB's and we need to put them on the field. (Stephens showed poise and skill during the UAB game.) He should have been on the field starting the 3rd period. That is Fulmer's bad.

When players KNOW that they can make mistakes and not be replaced, they will not get better. CF should have set Foster on the bench after that stupid penalty and he should have put Stephens in the game at the start of the second half after Crompton threw that interception.
