Okay. I'm going to get bashed for my "sources", but I don't care.
My neighbor in Athens, Tn someway somehow knows Marlin Lane and his family. He's had Marlin over to his house several times since Spring last year. I've seen him with my own 2 eyes!
Now, I was talking to my neighbor last week and he was saying that Lane had a cracked rib and sprained one of his ankles. Which is why he was not seeing as much playing time. He also said that his knee is bothering him, but doesn't think it's serious. Apparently the team has been battling sickness as well (Tyler Bray in the Kentucky game).
He also went on to say that Lane was very happy with Dooley and the program as a whole. Next time he comes to town I'll get pics and try to dig some more up.
Again, I know I'm telling 100% the truth. Take it or leave it. I used this same source back when Lane was about to commit to UT...and I was right.
If prior to NSD, you are correct. I think it would spell disaster. After -- and if he were to get a quality replacement -- it would be ok.
Frankly, I've come to the realization that college football is about 98% Jimmys and Joes and 2% Xs and Os. Fulmer and staff were not, in any way (maybe except Cutcliffe), the best X and O guys. They just had better players. This came home to roost once everyone else started recruiting over them.
For Dooley, if we have the horses it will take care of a lot of issues. I do not want to lose Wilcox and Sirmon but it can be managed if after NSD.
Didn't Chad Clifton seriously endorse CHH a month or so ago in one of these forums. I find it curious that we would disregard the opinion of an NFL Pro Bowler and All SEC lineman when it comes to CHH, and instead choose to believe the coach's evaluation brought to us by a bunch of VolNation idiots.
I think we see a huge improvement in the line next year, been saying that all along. I think CHH is a fine coach and thats coming from someone that doesnt like the guy very much.
Yes John Chavis is putting together some horrible scheme's at LSU. He really isn't a good coach. Cutcliffe however is just tearing it up at Duke.
Wishful thinking in my opinion. We can all hope that's the case. We've seen absolutely nothing to indicate that's going to happen. They improved exactly none the entire year run blocking. We ran for 60 yards against a UK team that allowed Florida to run for 400 yards.
Hiestand/Dooley need to abandon the zone blocking scheme. For many, it seems contrary to the "line up and block your guy" concept. It is quite advanced and requires a lot of communication and experience. I'm not saying it can't be done but it only works in certain situations. Many good NFL RBs that ran well in a conventional running scheme did not run well in a zone scheme.
My opinion: Boil it down to the basic --> This guy? Block him, block him, and don't stop until the whistle blows or the ref signals TD.
Lane was a Clemson reject coming off of an ACL tear if I recall correctly. I think he is a good prospect, not great.
