Couple Things Being Reported...

seems to me that we want to keep the coaches that are good enough to be drawing interest from elsewhere (Wilcox, Thompson)

we did last year, Baggett, Russell, Chaney, Wilcox and Thompson all talked to other schools last year. each year is different though and the hardest job at Tennessee is recruiting. Lots of places it just is not has hard. Coaches tire from going on road and leave for easier places, sometimes for less money.

Familiarity with a system that fails isn't a positive, in my opinion.
not 100% sure the system can't work there were so many factors involved and we never really got to see the system in action after the Cinci game. From that point in they were changing stuff up out of necessity nearly weekly due to injuries and qb changes.

Honestly I think folks are wrong the run game we had before the Florida game would have gotten us 8-9 wins this year if the injuries didn't happen.

People are under the misconception that you can't win in the SEC if you can't dominate in the run and I call shenanigans. If running the ball is the core of your offense and you can't do it that statement holds true but if running is secondary in your scheme and you have enough talent to pass on people whether they like it or not that is a different story.

Offenses like that have existed and thrived in the SEC in the past and can again. In fact, because it goes so against the grain it could be more successful because teams are built to stop the run more so around these parts. When SEC teams get upset by OOC foes they are usually of the passhappy variety.

I don't see how they won't have to do a major overhaul schematically anyway with the running game. That pretty much tosses out the only real justification for keeping Chaney or Hiestand, imo.

law : someone needs to get some of the laziness out of these players ,also. the line , i'm talking about.

That's right; you can be lazy at a place like Gainesville and stil have a top 10 class easy.

lane supposedly wasn't 100% :dunno:

Okay. I'm going to get bashed for my "sources", but I don't care.

My neighbor in Athens, Tn someway somehow knows Marlin Lane and his family. He's had Marlin over to his house several times since Spring last year. I've seen him with my own 2 eyes!

Now, I was talking to my neighbor last week and he was saying that Lane had a cracked rib and sprained one of his ankles. Which is why he was not seeing as much playing time. He also said that his knee is bothering him, but doesn't think it's serious. Apparently the team has been battling sickness as well (Tyler Bray in the Kentucky game).

He also went on to say that Lane was very happy with Dooley and the program as a whole. Next time he comes to town I'll get pics and try to dig some more up.

Again, I know I'm telling 100% the truth. Take it or leave it. I used this same source back when Lane was about to commit to UT...and I was right.

The line wasn't totally to blame for the running game. Poole was horrid.

I told some guys the other day that CCB's departure may have had to do with the run game. One of the insiders reported that CCB and Chaney had a philosophical disagreement and that the Asst HC title made the relationship non-functional.

You can't lay it all on Poole or the OL or the scheme or the QB or the TE's or the FB's or the WR's. It ALL has to work. The one consistent thing I noticed though is that UT NEVER blocked the perimeter well. The RB's could not bounce outside because there was always contain. That's where WR's have to be blockers as well as receivers.

My wager though is that the early season passive blocking scheme won't be back or else will only be a part of the playbook. UT seemed to do better once they started pulling linement and power blocking.

That's all common knowledge.

Peyton manning would aprove of this statement. It is possible to pass to open up the run.

Come on, sjt. When you're getting destroyed in the backfield, it's not the receivers' coach's fault. I mean, that's just a ludicrous notion.

Smh at not getting rid of Harry. Keeping him will most likely seal Dooley's fate imo. Hope I'm wrong, but using this season as a measuring stick, we may be even worse in the run game next year.

Guess everyone is entitled to their opinion, but Sam, you reek of negativity.

1.) No more staff changes after Baggett. This means Hiestand stays; this is mind-boggling.

2.) Chaney to quarterbacks coach. Hinshaw to receivers coach.

3.) Jay Graham has already been contacted informally by Tennessee.

4.) Larry Porter won't be a candidate for the RB coach job.

All of this per 247 Sports.

Goes to show what your opinion means.

He's been on a crusade against CCB since the day he "retired."

It's pathetic.

Look for a new blocking scheme next year. Why didn't they do it this year? I've been asking this question all year. Got to get a RB with speed that hits the hole without hesitation. If we can get Mike Davis from GA, I think we've got our guy. If we get Jay Graham from SC, or longshot Porter, we will have someone to teach the RB's. Lane has talent, but was not 100% this year, but he needs a full time coach. I'm surprised about CHH staying, but you better believe that HH, JC, DD will spend the off season working on the enitre run game. They all know if it isn't fixed next year, they're all going to be looking for new jobs. If every WR is healthy next year, look for our passing game to open up the run game. We get Patterson, imagine a 3 WR set with Rogers, Hunter, and Patterson. Scary to say the least. There are a lot of if's going into next year, but all the coaches know what they have to do, and what is at stake. I see an 8 - 4 regular season, and bowl win to go 9 - 4. I think that is the measuring stick on whether CDD is back for a fourth season. If they succeed, great. If they don't, they have only themselves to blame.

Didn't say that. There were problems both with the OL and the RB's. However the WR's didn't block well all year. There were times when the OL blocked reasonably well or the RB's ran reasonably well.

Someone started a thread saying the DD's job depends on getting the run game fixed for real. I tend to agree with that. Whoever the keep on staff had BETTER be fully sold out to whatever plan they come up with. You can't have any single coach deciding they don't want to go along. There is more than one method to getting it done... but generally speaking you can't haphazardly mix and match components of one method with another. You have to be consistent from the HC to the equipment manager.

My guess is that they didn't have time to fully switch. Toward the end you began to see some changes and a few creases open up.

I would be surprised if it doesn't look totally different... it may still not work but it will be different.
