Could Pruitt and Helton be doing this on purpose?

I actually think we think about the same,.just deliever a different way. I good with d performance so far except tackling. It.could be a ton better, but all things considered it's okay. Form tackling only comes through reps anyway. The only real issue I have with the staff so far is offensive game plans. We have nothing to lose, we arent good we all know it. So come out swinging and don't stop. Oline sucks, everyone knows it...so.get the ball away from it quickly the whole game with a few plays just to keep d honest. It likely wouldnt change the won lose record, but fighting hard and lossing by 10-14, is alot better than losing by 26 with conservative gameplans and it would go a long way with fan support.

Hope all the life stuff works out..

The oline needs to get on the same page.

Thanks about the life stuff.

No we aren't playing vanilla on either side of the ball. We are just that bad. We just need to stop with the theories and realize what is right in front of us.

We are just that bad . He is teaching fundamental football that these kids have never seen before. They can't execute it . Any fan with a working knowledge of the game can see it. Pruitt has talked about how many guys on a given play are doing things wrong ...which is most of the team. I see improvement every week ...but to think he is holding back or could do some mystical installation ….no. Just no .

The best you could hope for is that these kids are buying in and start to execute better collectively . If enough of them come 'online' and become better fundamentally, and execute the simple plays in front of them , I give them a chance in November .8 wins? probably not

Why is it so hard for some of you (and by that I'm talking to the OP) just to admit we're not very good? Stop bending over backwards to find some justification, because you're just making yourself look ridiculous.

Sometimes you just aren't very good; it's ok.

just don't start bending over forwards either....please

the most knowledgeable fans in college football have spoken...uh, what was that again...:D

JUST GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure but if I had to guess...
We have more plays in the playbook, and practice more plays than we see during games.
On game day, we come out and run our basic offense and if the simplest things are executed, we will up another step.
Our execution of the basics has sucked so far, imo.
I don't know, I guess I just don't understand why its so hard to understand.

If you can't ride a bike with training wheels, wth makes you think you can ride a wheelie backwards without them?

Ah, yes....the good ole hidden playbook theory.

Sometimes the reason something is vanilla is because you don’t have any other flavors to add.

We all know that Pruitt really hates to lose and I think he badly wants to end this season on the upside and with some positive motivation to inspire our players and to try to help with recruiting.

Just curious OP: do you honestly believe that the same can't be said about EVERY other coaching staff in the nation?

If the argument is that they are holding things back on purpose then I don’t think they are doing it just to unleash it for the weak end of the schedule. If they truly are holding things back then I would more likely they are doing it to for next year. That would give them a full year to install their system, get these kids properly coached and at least one class of their recruits on the roster.
If the plan is to hold back and surprise people, it would be better served to hold it back all year this year and surprise EVERYONE next year, not just the bad SEC teams this year.

In reality I don’t think they are holding anything back. It’s just that it takes time to learn a new system and as the team becomes better at certain things they do them in the games. The plays they haven’t gotten down they leave out to avoid problems in a season that was gonna be rough no matter what.

It's lack of talent. We can argue what position needs upgrading most, but i think there are two spots we're lacking on offense and it's kind of obvious at this point.

THINK about a few things my friends...

1...We all knew that in game 1 it wasn't likely that we'd Win against a prospective heiStman QB with his record setting WR's after what they proved they could do last season but we didn't lose as badly as I thought could happen.

2...Games 2 and 3 we all knew should be WINS and they were.

3...floriDUHHH we all hoped would be a WIN but I've never seen such a run of bad luck in my almost 65 years on this Earth and granted some of that was caused by us simply being a bad footVol Team so we were 2-2 on the season like many of us expected.

4...Now comes OMG what a scheduled unreal gauntlet we have to try to survive with few injuries starting with # 2 ranked UGa and then # 9 allbarn and then #1 ranked alaBubba, Holy smokes, what a meat grinder to have to face!

That takes us through 7 games and we'll probably be 2-5 unfortunately unless we get a miracle Win somewhere.

That leaves 5 games to try our best to Win 4 of them to make a bowl game, not likely, right?

Now THINK about these things my friends...

1...Our O has been very vanilla all season, I don't recall seeing any new plays or wrinkles at all so far, none.

In spite of that I have to believe that Helton HAS been adding 1 or 2 new plays every week, that will be 7 to 14 new plays by the time we finish the alabubba game that NOBODY has seen, not even reporters in the short time they are allowed to see practices.

I also believe that Pruitt has been trying his best to keep getting improvements made and trying NOT to get any top players hurt during the gauntlet.

I also have to believe that Pruitt HAS some blitz packages up his sleeves that he just hasn't used yet.

This is just my guess and I could certainly be wrong but I believe that in our last 5 games this season we ARE going to see some things come out on both sides of the ball that nobody has seen before except for our coaches and players.

It's normal for most teams to get better as the season goes along and I've already seen progress from our footVol Team.

I just think that Pruitt and Helton simply ARE working on some things for our last 5 games that will take everyone by surprise and, with a little good luck for a change, just might get us into a bowl game.

This just seems logical considering how vanilla we've been all season...so far.

There's my guesses and the reasons behind them so flame away my friends.

VFL...GBO!!!

The O has been vanilla because thats all they can run in the time allotted by the oline. He is starring down his receivers because he has very limited time to throw the football. Without the long/medium pass options the opponents cram the box and overplay the run. There are no options for this offense on 3rd and long, quick kick option might be possible. Not rocket science.

I don't doubt that the coaches have installed some things that we haven't seen yet. All coaches do, but they aren't holding back to surprise people later in the season. If we could've beaten Florida we would have, and WV as well for that matter. CJP wants wins. The real reason that we haven't seen any special plays or blitzes is because we are not good enough to play fundamentally sound football, so complicating the playbook would only make us look more sloppy because we would waste time trying new things rather than fixing the basics like run blocking, gap assignments, tackling and tight coverage. Sorry brother, you missed on this one.
