Could Pruitt and Helton be doing this on purpose?

We all know that Pruitt really hates to lose and I think he badly wants to end this season on the upside and with some positive motivation to inspire our players and to try to help with recruiting.

THINK about a few things my friends...

1...We all knew that in game 1 it wasn't likely that we'd Win against a prospective heiStman QB with his record setting WR's after what they proved they could do last season but we didn't lose as badly as I thought could happen.

2...Games 2 and 3 we all knew should be WINS and they were.

3...floriDUHHH we all hoped would be a WIN but I've never seen such a run of bad luck in my almost 65 years on this Earth and granted some of that was caused by us simply being a bad footVol Team so we were 2-2 on the season like many of us expected.

4...Now comes OMG what a scheduled unreal gauntlet we have to try to survive with few injuries starting with # 2 ranked UGa and then # 9 allbarn and then #1 ranked alaBubba, Holy smokes, what a meat grinder to have to face!

That takes us through 7 games and we'll probably be 2-5 unfortunately unless we get a miracle Win somewhere.

That leaves 5 games to try our best to Win 4 of them to make a bowl game, not likely, right?

Now THINK about these things my friends...

1...Our O has been very vanilla all season, I don't recall seeing any new plays or wrinkles at all so far, none.

In spite of that I have to believe that Helton HAS been adding 1 or 2 new plays every week, that will be 7 to 14 new plays by the time we finish the alabubba game that NOBODY has seen, not even reporters in the short time they are allowed to see practices.

I also believe that Pruitt has been trying his best to keep getting improvements made and trying NOT to get any top players hurt during the gauntlet.

I also have to believe that Pruitt HAS some blitz packages up his sleeves that he just hasn't used yet.

This is just my guess and I could certainly be wrong but I believe that in our last 5 games this season we ARE going to see some things come out on both sides of the ball that nobody has seen before except for our coaches and players.

It's normal for most teams to get better as the season goes along and I've already seen progress from our footVol Team.

I just think that Pruitt and Helton simply ARE working on some things for our last 5 games that will take everyone by surprise and, with a little good luck for a change, just might get us into a bowl game.

This just seems logical considering how vanilla we've been all season...so far.

There's my guesses and the reasons behind them so flame away my friends.

I can hit just about any golf shot I want to, but I'm only going to bring it out against competition I think I have a chance to beat. Perfect idea.;)

Why is it so hard for some of you (and by that I'm talking to the OP) just to admit we're not very good? Stop bending over backwards to find some justification, because you're just making yourself look ridiculous.

Sometimes you just aren't very good; it's ok.

Some people live vicariously through sports teams so it might hurt right now. Thats why folks are grasping for moral victory straws; its a smokescreen, completion % is so good, saving our best for October, etc, etc.

I'm thinking that the week after Bama.....

JJ Peterson starts and has 2 sacks and a pick 6
G Emerson starts and has 2 sacks
and J Jennings starts at qb (was in hs) and UT runs the wishbone with Banks, London, and Jordan in the backfield. Chandler starts at Flanker.

That is what UT is holding back.

thinking about, not a bad idea:cool:

Brother, I don't blame you one bit for seeking reasons to be hopeful. Not one bit.

But I think we are seeing, each week, our team's best effort. I mean, the Florida game was filled with sloppy errors due to lack of focus, as well as some bad luck, so I'm not saying we're always at our best. Only that we're striving to give our best. Coaches and players alike.

So we're not going to see some playbook spigot magically turned on in week 9 or 10. It's just not in the cards.

What can happen, though, and I think is happening, is that our team continues to improve. Getting steadily better, bit by bit, each week, until we're competitive again. That's partly filling out the playbook with plays our lads are up to. It's partially our players getting tougher, mostly mentally, until they're in a mindset to win and dominate against opponents. And it's partially, in the longer term, getting more big and fast players who can run the hard-nosed, mouth-smashing style of play CJP & Co insist upon.

Can we get to the point where we're SEC competitive before the end of this season? Maybe. Not gonna lie, these next few weeks could do more harm than good in our effort to get there. Fingers crossed that we avoid a plague of injuries. So maybe. Maybe we'll see success against the November part of our schedule. Maybe, just maybe, we'll find a way to get to a bowl this year.

Just gonna have to have patience. There is no magic trick coming.

Go Vols!

I like the way you're thinking and I would love to believe you're right. But unfortunately I see a few problems with your theory.

First, I don't think any coach would gameplan or strategize based on the assumption of failure, no matter how inevitable it might seem. If Pruitt doesn't think we have a chance to win (even if it's a very slim one), then his players won't believe it and the coaches will have no chance to accomplish anything productive as the season goes on. And that's bad news, because that's the only way we can hope to get better. I don't think it's realistic to think we can save all the good stuff for the last few games.

Second, if you believe that it is "normal for most teams to get better as the season goes along," then that would apply to our late-season opponents, as well -- most of which are already playing better than we are now.

Lastly, I don't believe you can formulate a gameplan that will limit the number of injuries to your team. Training, conditioning, proper nutrition, getting enough rest and playing with proper technique can help you mitigate injuries. But then there's still the chance for random fluke injuries, no matter which plays you're running.

Having said that, I think what you might be seeing is something I've noticed, which is a certain deliberateness in the way we are going about our business as a team. What some have called vanilla or predictable offensive play-calling, for instance, I view as our staff trying to bend our players to their will. A sort of YOU WILL DO IT THIS WAY UNTIL YOU DO IT RIGHT kind of philosophy. And to me, if they are successful, that's going to pay dividends for us and keep us on an upward arc on the learning curve as a team. We are taking our medicine to get better. We are planning for the long term. We are doing the hard work now so we can reap the rewards later. My 2 cents.

actually he's giving the opposing coaches our playbooks. This season is all about building resiliency. He wants to lose.

and since I'm in the FF and too many won't figure it out, yeah, blue font.
