Could Butch leave?

I don't know this as fact but from what I understand Barb Jones isn't happy in Knoxville and wants out.

And this article would give some credence to that IMO. Also there are some horror stories about the family and dealth threats. That's the kind of things that make coaches decide to do things that don't seem on the surface possible

It would also be foolish to not acknowledge that Butch has explored some options aka Virginia Tech. There is interest there, I don't think it will happen but if the right opportunity comes available he will jet regardless of "lesser job" or "lateral move".

Then Hart could get another DD THEN WHAT, take 5 more year's to to get us where we are at now.

Hart will not be here next football season, UT will not renew his contract he's made far too many enemies at UT. So if Jones were to leave Hart would have no authority in the football hire because he would be forced out the door earlier than June.

Of course he could. I don't think he will be an "in demand" choice for many if any of the openings but he could certainly leave. Programs looking for a coach see what we see and probably aren't too attracted to the "6 or 7" year talk either. That's not a great selling point for your next job when the program is probably hurting to start with. They see him building and recruiting well but see the same game day head scratchers we have.

The programs who could afford him are all or almost all Power 5 programs. I doubt even most Power 5 programs can afford him. Even if they can, few have the facilities and support that UT has and Jones would likely expect.

If UT has to replace Jones, it WILL be a top shelf opening. Jones has done some great foundation work. He's suffered through many of the problems that scared other coaches away. The roster has talent and enough depth for a good coach to win enough early to be safe. As mentioned, the facilities and support are top notch.

All that said, IMHO, Jones next stop is the NFL. I believe that's his "secret" ambition. I think if he were not to succeed at UT then he'll go as an assistant. If he does succeed then I think he will parlay that into a HC job in the NFL. I believe the worries of another program grabbing him at this point or of him leaving for another college job later are minimal.

His offensive style would fail miserably in the NFL. That aside, what leads you to believe he ultimately desires to land in the NFL? Gut feeling or have there been any stories or indicators out there? Just curious.

You are saying butch has actively explored va tech?

If Barb Jones isn't happy in Knoxville, she's not going to be much happier anywhere in the SEC or at any major program. Big salary = big stakes, big expectations and big pressure. If it's more than they bargained for, CBJ can take his UT multimillions and be a small-town, small-program coach in a few years. I can't see him going anywhere for any reason until the end of next season, at the earliest, and probably not then.

I'm sure all SEC wives have issues. But they see the many benefits, too.

I am, through his agent. But I think Justin Fuente will be announced as their head coach Monday or Tuesday. Virginia Tech was not all that excited about the 4 million dollar buy out to get him. It doesn't sound like a lot but for Va Tech thats a lot of money.

This an opinion or something you know?

I'm not surprised. The honeymoon is over and our offensive style is not what most fans wanted. Jones looks more and more pissed on the sidelines as each game comes and goes. Anyone else noticed such?

Jones doesn't like the pressure, he appreciates the fan support but doesn't like the other side and after the loss to Arkansas this year it really got to him. I don't know this as fact but from what I understand Barb Jones isn't happy in Knoxville and wants out. Do I think Butch Jones will leave? No but it would be foolish to think it wouldn't happen given the circumstances. He's not happy from a personal stand point and it shows, he is happy from a football stand point though. So which out weighs the other? I think Jones is a great mid level coach who is growing his way into a good SEC coach if he can hang in for a little while longer.

Happy Wife. Happy Life. 😉

CBJ's agent is going to be making calls and putting his name out there, whether CBJ is interested in making a move or not. The agent wants leverage to convince UT to pony up more money, and he'll create it however he can. All agents do it, and their clients have no idea what's going on 98% of the time. It's just the game. Which is why UT would be nuts to sweeten the contract until CBJ has an offer on the table. Even if UT sweetens the deal, CBJ's agent is going to keep working the phones. More money for CBJ is more money for him.

In this case money isn't what Jones wants

Even though I don't think Jones is the long-term guy he has excelled more than I thought he would on the recruiting trail. He has indeed built a foundation of skill players and depth to build upon for the next guy IF he decided to go elsewhere.

So I'm curious... With the state of the program being more attractive now than it was after Kiffin and Dooley, why on earth do people think we'll get another Dooley and go in the tank for another 5 years???

True, it would hinge a great deal on the guy the administration wants to pay for BUT if it was a homerun hire then I wouldn't necessarily foresee a big fall off. If anything, a homerun hire I believe would be able to stabilize the current roster as well as become even more attractive for top tier recruits.

I just don't understand the chicken little mentality IF CBJ were to leave. I guess it's a lack of faith in the administration and boosters to make that homerun hire it would take which is understandable.
