Could Bucs LBs coach Barry join Vols as defensive coordinator? No, not really.

That's nonsense. That "3rd team" LB was All-SEC Freshman Lathers. He played very well down the stretch. Nor was the problem one of physical talent or injury. Watch the games again. We're just flat confused or out of position, and the guys confused or out of position are named Chris Walker, Eric Berry, LaMarcus Thompson, and others. It was entirely about scheme and game-planning. We did fine when a team when to a pro-formation with the exact same players; we did better than fine. We did great. But use the hash marks and the width of the field right, with some misdirection and formation tricks, and we were hopeless, often from the get-go early-on in games. We had these kind of problems against Ohio & Memphis for cryin' out loud. Auburn abused us, and that was very early in the season, and their depth was far worse than ours. Quit making excuses for Monte; his adjustment to aspects of the college game were bad, pure and simple.

I'm just being realistic, we endedthe year ranked 22 nationally in total defense. Before the lb injuries we were in the top 15. Every defense in the country is have some difficulties adapting to the wildcat, otherwise, why would teams use it? Au and malzahns funky offense gave everyone fits... Until they had five or six games of tape to break down, then they started slowing it down. Lathers is going to be a great backer and he did as good a job as we can expect. Ask the question why is he frosh all sec? He had a lot of tackles by the end of the season. It's a fact that who ever plays the mike is going to have a lot of tackles. There is a reason that that position leads most defenses in tackles. But just because he was making tackles doesn't mean the defense is getting the job done. Hey I have no reasons to try and make excuses for Monte, but these are just the facts. You can say we looked confused early in the year, but statistically we were outstanding, even though the offense was horrid early and kept putting back on the field with little rest for a thin unit.

Sorry if this has been posted (I haven't read every page), but do you guys remember that this is son-in-law of Rod Marinelli. Remember? He was the DC at Detroit when they went 0-16.
This is the guy that reporter was talking about when he asked Marinelli if the team would be better if his daughter had married someone different.

Tennessee:
Sources tell FootballCoachScoop that Tampa Bay Buccaneers Linebackers coach Joe Barry has interviewed for the vacant Defensive Coordinator position
with Head Coach Derek Dooley and is currently negotiating a deal to become the next Defensive Coordinator for the Volunteers.

Saw this on footballcoachscoop.com. I know they are wrong ALOT, but we'll see. didn't see this posted yet, sorry if it is.

I saw this too.

If this happens, that means we would have hired Kippy Brown and Joe Barry within a one month period. Who's next, Matt Millen?

Yeah some bad mojo there, D-coordinator for an 0-16 team. Oh well, if he's hired I trust CDD has done his research and knows what he's getting.

There just doesn't seem to be a good group of qualified candidates willing to change at this particular time and timing is all important. DD will do the best he can with a bad situation I believe but the pickings are slim. Let's hope we get someone for each open coaching position that turns out to be a really good find.

I like the NFL and Monte ties. Between the ties to Saban and Monte and the NFL we should have a strong staff to sell.

I'm sure he'll be fine, it's just hard to look past his one year of experience as a DC...if that even counts.
Then again, he got great production out of Derek Brooks and Barret Ruud while in Tampa.

Barry at LB and Thompson on DL is one of the strongest combos in college football...DC will likely be a Thompson and Barry collab. Joseph at DB is questionable.

Really?

You are going to bash a guy who was on one of the worst teams ever assembled?

Did you watch them play that year? They gave up after game 2. They were horrible and it wasnt the coaches fault. It was the front office and the fact the players sucked.

Tampa fans want him to stay as their DC if that tells you anything.
