Could Bray be better than Manning?

Wow. UT beats I-AA Montana and Cincy, and we all go getting delusions on grandeur.

How bout we wait til after the UF game?

We've got people talking about Bray being an all time great and others figuring out ways to call Peyton Manning an underachiever. This thread has it all.

I don't remember PM beating many top 10 teams or any really big games.

Manning beat UGA, when they were a top 10 team. He beat T.O.$.U. (The Ohio State University) when they were a top ten team. Beat Auburn in the S.E.C. Championship game.
Other than that, it was the regular Southern Miss, Northwestern, Memphis, Texas Tech, Kentucky, vandy
Ole Miss, Miss State, a Freddie Kitchen lead Bama, Arkansas, USC, Washington State, UCLA, East Carolina,
UNLV, Virginia Tech,

Of course Bray COULD be better than Manning. For that matter, Worley, Nance, or Peterman could be as well. There's that whole issue however of their careers having just started. Silly question--revisit in 3 years.

Yes. These gaters are a better team than peyton faced imo. If he stays 4 years he will re wright UT's record book.

You think these Gat(e)ors are better then the Gators that Peyton faced? You are severely misremembering those Gator teams. I do agree Tyler has a chance to re "wright" UT's record books but even that wouldn't necessarily make him better then Peyton.

Peyton is an NFL quarterback. Presently tyler bray and peyton manning are not even on the same playing field. Back in the day, if you put Bray in Mannings shoes, I don't think you would see Bray hitting as many deep routes as Manning did.

It's impossible to compare players like this anyway. Does anyone believe Peyton wouldn't be putting up equal numbers with Chaney calling plays and having Da'Rick and Hunter to throw to? Please

It's way too early to compare him to PM.

That being said, I do resent the fact that PM could never do it, and I will notice and appreciate the fact that TB did (if he does).

Enough of this beating Florida stuff!!!
Question: From
September 1994 - December 1997, what college football team beat the Florida Gators???
Bama & Nebraska & Florida State. However; they didn't beat them with any regularity.
My point is that NO ONE was beating them during that period. They were a hot program. Fulmer wasn't beating them. Paterno wasn't beating them. Bowden wasn't consistantely beating them. Holtz wasn't beating them.
After 1997, Florida started to show some cracks in their foundation. Teams were figuring them out, somewhat.
LSU, Casey Clausen, and other teams were able to expose them and get victories. After 1997, they were lucky to win most of the games that they won. They had lucky plays against U.T. to get a victory. They had
lucky plays against USC to get a victory.
Then when Spurrier left and Zook took over, they were vunerable.
No Manning didn't beat Florida from 1994 - 1997 but no one else did either, except Nebraska, Florida State or Bama. And they didn't do it consistantely.

Actually, he probably wouldn't. Back in the day, Jay Graham or Jamal Lewis would have had a field day against Montana and Cincinnati and Manning would have been on the bench by the end of the 3rd quarter.

Way too early to tell

Agree. Bray still has lots of growing to do yet but if he applies himself he has the potential to be the next Peyton Manning, and I believe he will be. He has all the tools, strong arm, quick release, very accurate, steps up in the pocket. However, you also have to have guys that can protect him from the rush. So far, the guys have been doing pretty good this year. Yes, I wouldn't annoint him yet as Peyton's successor but the writing is on the wall and we may have another one in Worley behind him. Good days are ahead for the VOLS.

this. Gators from 1993-1997 absolutely dominated the SEC. Saban's Alabama is nowhere near the dominance that Spurrier had on this league. In 1995 Peyton dominated the Gators in the first half scoring I believe on his first four possessions. Then the Lawrence Wright (I think) hit on one of WR that resulted in a fumble really took the sails out of our offense and Florida massacred us. In 96 it was the first half where the Gators destroyed us. Peyton tried to lead us back but we couldn't recover an onside kick (I think) at the end. 97 our offensive line didn't let Peyton do anything and Jamal Lewis had yet to emmerge.

People forget that in 98 we were extremely fortunate to win as Florida outgained us like 500 yds to 200 in that game. Their offense moved the ball pretty well just the fumble at the one and costly turnovers and sacks at key moments of the game cost them the game (the opposite can be said of 1999 and 2000 where we were the better team and we lost). If Peyton had a defense like the 98 team that bent but didn't break then he would have been 3-0 against the Gators.

Tyler Bray has yet to start a game outside of the state of tennessee and we are comparing him to probably the best pure passer in SEC football in history.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying....

Peyton Manning choked quite a bit in college and has choked quite a bit in the NFL. He is a great qb but he could never manage to beat the team he needed to ... Florida.

It is way to soon to tell if Bray will be better but I truly believe his attitude (the same one alot of people can't stand on here) is going to lead him to alot of success.

If he beats florida, people will say that the florida teams Manning faced were superior. Bray needs to win a couple of SEC championships or a national championship to be considered greater. It all goes back to hardware as it always has.

The florida teams manning faced were superior to this years UF team. While PM was here UF went 10-2 11-1 11-1 and 10-2. That being said Manning lost only 1 game his entire career he shoulda won. For the poster saying he didnt beat anyone. He lost a total of 5 games and 2 or 3 of those were to the national champions. while amassing a recored of 39-5, And beating almost everyone on the schedule. There's no doubt in most or minds that PM would have beatin plenty of ranked teams had he had the oppertunity to play them. Only the most elite teams in the country beat him.

On the Bray to Manning Comparison... I'll Say this. The vary first time I ever saw Kobe Bryant play I said thats the next MJ. He may not have made MJ status yet but he's close enough...After seeing Bray this season I have no problem saying he is the next PM. He may not ever quite reach PM status, but he's gonna be D$mn close. It's not about the stats, but about the look of the person on the feild, and his passes. Watching PM play is a thing of beauty his passes are so precise and perfect you just look at them in awe. TB has that same look this past weekend was where it was most evident. His passes were perfect in many cases, and you just watch in awe as to how good he can be. If he keeps it up this year he'll be the next best thing to PM or a little better and thats good enough for me........GBO,VFL

This is a silly comparison, at this point. PM had a very good college career and a decade plus of ruling the NFL.

However, it's also premature to say that Bray "couldn't" become as good (or better). That's always a possibility in sports, and I think we would be short-sighted to say that P Man can't be touched.
