Connor O'Gara on Finebaum says

Connor O Gara, doesn't have a clue to whom or White has talked too. AV told you some folks have their own agendas, just wait till we hear from White. Then there will be plenty of time to second guess him or too say boy we were stupid for listening to all these folks pretend to know what he was doing. Nobody knows except who he wants to know. GBO!!!!

Will Plan D recruit at a “SEC level” in the next 10 months?

It’s not about recruiting right now imo.
The deterioration to the program from going with a Plan C/D and a temp in the next 10 months is likely less than going from a home run next December rather than a Plan C or Plan D now.

I’ll exchange a top-25 class for a top-35 one if it gets a top target next December
I just think nothing looks worse than announcing a coaching search and then basically coming back and saying “hey, we struck out with everyone we talked to, so we are just going to roll with the interim coach who was already here.”

John L Smith in 2012 and they have pretty much been irrelevant since. They had an 8-5 season one year under Bielema but that is the best they’ve done.

Ed Odgeron, Dabo Swinney, Ryan Day, and Lincoln Riley were all assistants or interims hired into full-time coaching positions that have had success.

No one wants to believe this. I hope I am wrong but I don't believe this is going to be a 1 year and don't go to a bowl wrist slap. It's going to be bad.
We helped our situation by bringing in the NCAA and getting rid of Pruitt/Fulmer and getting DW. We will see.

Nah I don't believe that ********, They already said it has to be an offensive minded coach

It's always, always, always about the recruiting. We won't get near a top 35 with an interim coach.
lmao. How’s that approached worked for us?

It’s about players, not recruiting. They’re not coterminous. Development!

We’re not catching UGa or Bama by out-recruiting them. Recruiting will follow great coaching, not the other way. It would be nice to get both concurrently, but we’re not in position to pull that.

Get a guy like Campbell that can get to the top-10 with top-50 classes. At Tennessee those would be top-30, likely better. He’s putting guys into the NFL at the MAC, and now Iowa St.

I wont be shocked if somehow DW leaves in December if he names Kevin Steele the interim head football coach. I wouldn't be shocked if he had no idea of the extent of how bad things are as far as violations go and he gives up and goes somewhere else in December.

If the answer is Steele then what this means is the real coaching search will be all 2021 long and will be announced next year. Danny White is now seeing how hard it it to hire for this dumpster fire of a program. Nobody want's it.
UT might be looking for a new AD if DW gives up and decides to go somewhere else.

It would be one thing if we had made Steele the interim and just decided to stick with that for next year and see how he does. But we announced a coaching search. I guess it would be a similar situation as Ed O at LSU. However, there are a ton more examples of interim coaches who didn’t find success that those who did.

It is like any open position, you give the current guy a chance and review other guys. Do you not think there was people that LSU could have hired that would have taken the job? They chose coach Ed O due to what he proposed in his interview.

Boy, it's nice to have big dreams...
That’s the only reason I think we get Steele is major sanctions.

I doubt we get a top tier guy right now.

The question to me is do you try the up and coming small program head coach or budget Steele?

Tough times.

Looks? Hopefully looks aren’t dictating anything.

We just got caught cheating. Won 3 games. Nearly two decades of turmoil. Looks don’t matter anymore.

It’s a sunk cost we’ve started a search. If waiting 10-11 months gets us a much better candidate, wait.

I don’t know if it will. We’ve struggled to lure “sure bets” for a long time. Plus, there aren’t sure bets when you have UGa and UF in your division and cross with Bama

It’s not like any open position though. When a position opens up at your company, are there entire message boards dedicated to discussing the hire?

Seems like this was the plan all along, doesn’t it
I don't know...think about it: What top tier coach is going to come in here with the NCAA breathing down our back, knowing we may have scholarship limitations, bowl game implications. It doesn't make us relevant any sooner, but maybe, assuming Steele doesn't get a three year contract, this might be the best scenario right now. I would rather, when the time comes, make a splash hire.
I know the argument is "our recruiting class". Well, if you can't do anything with 4-5 star recruits, their only as good as the paper those stars are written on. I hate every minute of it, I really do. And yes, to your comment, I think you're right, they brought him in, having a feeling they would have to go in this direction.

Looks matter a lot in college football, regardless of whether you agree with it or not...it matters to recruits and potential coaches.
