UT basketball opening.......

This is not going to be well received. I have first hand knowledge, that with yesterday's news of Tyndall being fired, Pearl has reached out to UT about its opening. This was done through his agent. He's willing to pay a large portion of his buyout to get the job. His wife wants to be back home. It almost killed him playing in that arena this year and he didn't like it.

Hopefully, his past with them keeps him here".

Please name me a coach that does less with more. I'll accept Johnny Jones starting next year after they lose in the Round of 64 as a 6 seed.

Actually they were a 9 seed this year.

TIFWIW

I agree jones doesn't do well with good talent.

I'm sure Bruce would love to be back here as would I love for him to be, but it will not happen. I hate to say zero chance but I would put it at .00001%.

Name you 1 coach? easy Bruce Weber

But that doesn't even matter that much really. I don't care what he gets relative to the talent he has, because he's the one who gets the talent. It's about how good the team is

Calipari isnt the best Xs and Os coach out there. Far from it. If college hoops were like nascar and everyone had to compete w the same team cal wouldn't be sniffing championship.

But guess what - it's not. Obviously any sane person would take cal in a heartbeat

If you guys don't like a slow down, motion type of offense, very similar to Martin's, then you're not going to like Holtman.

An interesting name would be a guy like Oliver Purnell. Successful at Dayton and Clemson and then bombed at DePaul, mainly because he couldn't make in roads into the dirty world of Chicago high school and AAU basketball. He is a little older, but has the reputation as a guy who can build a program. He might not be a long term solution, but maybe a 5 year solution, who could allow UT to hire from a position of strength and not weakness. Oh, and OP presses all game long. He could probably keep the current roster intact.

Oliver Purnell was not successful at Clemson. He ran out of town to buy his career more time, much like your boy in Berkley. Purnell would be a horrible hire.

Tom Crean makes Bruce Webber look like Gregg Popovich. He road 2 5* players to first round exist this year. He took 2 5* players to nothing last year. He road 2 NBA lottery pics to a sweet 16 exist in his best season at Indiana.

I'm not confident that we can get a big name "splash" hire in here will all the Bull Crap going on. As for the possible hires:
Barnes- Why?
Greg Marshall- Not coming. Dude is very successful now can get a job at a basketball school if he wants. Plus we shunned him off when he was really interested a few years ago.
Rick Byrd- I like him and he is a really good coach, but dude is like 175 years old. We need at least 5-6 years out of our next coach to stabilize our program. Plus, if he reads some of the Negavols on volnation he may need to be rushed to the hospital.
Bobby Hurley- He may do a good job here but this is a stepping stone for him. As soon as the ACC coming calling, he will be gone.
Chris Mack- I don’t see him coming here although he would be a good one for use.
Chris Holtmann- Young and can coach. I would fully welcome but not sure if he can recruit in the south.
Will Wade- Not a sexy name but this guy can flat out coach. The style of basketball is entertaining and he is from the Great State of Tennessee so has some ties in the south. After the slow paced offenses from our last two coaches I would love to see a change in pace. This would be a style of ball the kids would love to run. I really like this guy.

Not sure how I feel about hiring Byrd but not sure why his age would turn people off. Plenty of coaches his age and older coach in the sweet 16 every year. In fact, we have a few in Elite 8 this year. The Byrd hire would be similiar to Kim Anderson at Mizzou IMO and jury still out on him. I would love having a Knoxville guy and a guy with his character, just unsure if he is right guy for this time. Should have been hire in 2011 IMO.

Purnell was not successful at Clemson? He took them to the tournament 3 years in a row and won 20 games 4 years in a row. If you know anything about Clemson basketball, you would know that a record like that is incredibly successful. He ran out of town because Depaul offered him a huge raise. Purnell was coming off his third straight NCAA tournament and had signed the best recruiting class in Clemson history right before he left, but don't let facts stand in your way.

Barnes would bring successful experience in every aspect of D1 BB. Day 1 he hits the ground running and moves UT's BB program forward. UT would have the opportunity to make long term plans to elevate the program with Barnes in place.

Barnes couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag, I would tak cuonzo over Barnes, get a grip.

We probably should of hired Byrd 4 years ago and we wouldn't be in this mess.

And I was vehemently against hiring Byrd then. I think I was wrong now.

Facts are lame.

It's like people say stuff thinking other people don't have access to the internet or didn't sit through the Larry Shyatt tenure at Clemson, where Clemson struggled to make the ACC tournament, and then watched Purnell rebuild the roster and go on a pretty impressive run using a full court pressing style that UT fans seem to enjoy.

So, my point is:

1. Has been successful at rebuilding rosters
2. Plays an uptempo style
3. Is available
4. Would probably walk from Chicago to Knoxville for the job.

Now, do I think he will even be considered, probably not, but neither will 3/4 of the people listed in this thread.
