Coaching Search Thread

Why aren't we talking about Eric Spoelstra? I think CBJ could get his buddy to come here with him.

The more I research, the more I like UTC's Will Wade.
Reasons:
1. Runs Full Court Press.
2. Players Coach- will keep our recruits
3. Relentless worker
4. Really good recruiter
5. From Nashville
6. Promoter of school and program
7. Shaka Smart's 1st hire as head coach
8. Worked at Clemson, Harvard, & VCU

Pay Will 1.2 to 1.5
Keep Al Pinkins with a raise
Hire another great recruiter as assistant coach

And you will have a winning combo!!!!

Honest question: how drunk are you? Even Coach K, Izzo, Cal, Ryan, or Self would need 3 years to build us back up. Anyone who thinks we are a tourney team in 3 or less years is drunk or insane. Or both.

How naive are you to college basketball? Coach Cal rebuilds every year, all it takes is 3 top notch recruits and your a top 20 team. In college basketball your not winning unless your cheating and that goes for all the coaches you listed above.

Get a hungry mid-major guy--the guy with the most charisma who seems to genuinely want to coach at UT and has a reputation as a good recruiter. How hard can that be?

1. Greg Marshall (More than likely mark off list)
2. Rick Barnes
3. Chris Mack
4. Bob Hurley
5. Will Wade
6. Levelle Moton

Go down that list. Hoping that one in the top 3 is the next head coach.

Gregg Marshall will never coach basketball at the University of Tennessee, that ship sailed in april 2011

After the last two hires, I have ZERO faith in Hart to make a splash type hire. He'll probably hire someone who's been mentioned here, but very few will like it.

I hope that people would know to invest only discretionary income. People should never invest income they have to live on.

Well then that kind of destroys your analogy, given that a head coach isn't exactly discretionary.

Hart's only basketball hire (men's) has been Donnie. Hamilton hired Cuonzo on his way out the door.

I'm not confident that we can get a big name "splash" hire in here will all the Bull Crap going on. As for the possible hires:
Barnes- Why?
Greg Marshall- Not coming. Dude is very successful now can get a job at a basketball school if he wants. Plus we shunned him off when he was really interested a few years ago.
Rick Byrd- I like him and he is a really good coach, but dude is like 175 years old. We need at least 5-6 years out of our next coach to stabilize our program. Plus, if he reads some of the Negavols on volnation he may need to be rushed to the hospital.
Bobby Hurley- He may do a good job here but this is a stepping stone for him. As soon as the ACC coming calling, he will be gone.
Chris Mack- I don’t see him coming here although he would be a good one for use.
Chris Holtmann- Young and can coach. I would fully welcome but not sure if he can recruit in the south.
Will Wade- Not a sexy name but this guy can flat out coach. The style of basketball is entertaining and he is from the Great State of Tennessee so has some ties in the south. After the slow paced offenses from our last two coaches I would love to see a change in pace. This would be a style of ball the kids would love to run. I really like this guy.

So you say he's too old, there's no way he'd even be considered, and he's never coached in college, but you say I should want him?

Get serious.

Well he's won championships everywhere he's been,if I was a Alabama or lsu and tim cone is 6 maybe 5 years younger, I offer the house

Barnes would bring successful experience in every aspect of D1 BB. Day 1 he hits the ground running and moves UT's BB program forward. UT would have the opportunity to make long term plans to elevate the program with Barnes in place.

I'm tired of this defeatist crap. WE ARE ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY A BIG TIME PROGRAM WITH THE RIGHT HIRE. We have money facilities, exposure, etc. in place for someone to come in and win. We have had coaches who did before and we can again.

No one's saying it has to be next year, but, as I said, you get a guy to build a program and win. Simple.

Barnes is 60 years old with nearly 30 years in the game. You are a damn fool if you think you are getting something different than he already is.

And, yes, stability is a crap reason to hire someone. Garbage. Worthless. Useless. Nonsense. Utter defeatist tripe. Winning is its own stability and that's the job, to win. So, hire someone who you think will make a winner, not simply a babysitter who will make sure there are no fires to put out.

I am tired of that attitude too. It is one thing to think team may have a down year, but to say we are not a big time program is getting old. I mean, even Gonzaga has shown you do not have to be Ky, N.C., Duke, UCLA.

I agree with everything you said except 5-6 years out of the next coach we need 10+ years. I think Will Wade would be successful and be here for a very long run, like Coach K.
