Coaching Search Thread

Of course he's willing to entertain the idea. Money talks.

Let's hope the Big Orange is talking Big Money. UT has a chance to go "all in" for men's hoops. It's way past time they did.

Bruce Pearl showed that all it takes at UT is a great coach. Vol fans will show up at TBA and buy the popcorn, buy the game jersey's and orange & white basketballs.

Spend whatever it takes to get the sure-fire best coach. You'll turn a profit. Vol fans buy Big Orange gear year round. We're big boys & girls... with jobs and stuff.

No to chris holttman because he is barely above .500 in his heading coaching career.

You realize there needs to be context to that. He elevated Gardner webbs program while he was there and it took some losing seasons to do it.

He's a good coach. I'd be happy with the hire

I would tend to agree, if I hadn't seen Butler in person, this year.

Vols beat Butler and...from what I could tell... Vols won entirely due to Butler being a bit out of condition. I'm not sure that we want a coach who can't get his players in tip-top shape.

Butler wilted in the second half of that game.

Went from 11 to 23 wins and 9th to 2nd in the conference in 3 years.

Also, I thought Butler was a very well coached team this year.

I'm so old I remember when Coach Mears was found mowing his yard in the middle of the
night with a flashlight as his guide.

I wonder if Calipari left UK -- would they hire a mid major coach to replace him ? Of course not

I'm not a business person who has worked with multi million dollar budgets, but I also don't think the majority of posters on here have done so either. I don't think it is as easy to hire a coach as some on here think. Just offering money is not how it's done. How many really "successful" coaches are out there available to hire. By successful I mean they have consistently won lots of games against equal talent (like TN vs Ky or TN vs LSU). Coaches like that are not available because they already have a job, they are being paid a very good salary, and they are happy. In short, if they are available, they have been in a mid major and are looking to move up, or they have some baggage they are carrying with them. You do not just go hire a good proven coach just because you have money. I definately do not know all the college coaches that are out there, but am sure 99% of the sure fire ones will not leave just because we offered 3-4M. Their current schools would offer the same money if the coach was making them millions of dollars. Basketball is not the money maker many may think.

I'm apathetic to the point to where if I have heard of the coach then I'll probably be fine with it, and I can name a lot of coaches.

We just aren't a very desirable place to coach right now given our current roster configuration, among other things.

Anyone think Brad Stevens could be on the hot seat in Boston?

He'd be worth a call.

Nope, not at all. They have a ton of draft picks and this type of season was expected. He may get them into the playoffs too, last time I checked they were in 9th place.

Yeah but they are UK, a top 5 program. They are a little different. Plus they put basketball first and we put football. Comparing apples to oranges. I do agree though, we should aim high.

Not a chance, for two reasons.

He likely will make the playoffs with one of the 2 or 3 worst rosters in the NBA. Evan Turner is their best player, that should tell you something. He has done a fantastic job IMO.

Secondly, he would be in line for a job at Texas or Indiana well before UT. IU would probably do whatever it takes to get him.
