Let’s go a different route then. He was 3rd string in the spring (with Heupel a short time), made 2nd string in the fall, and Heupel would’ve left him there if Milton had not gotten hurt. Since arriving he has signed two 5* QBs and two 4* QBs. With Joey playing every down it seems he will go shopping for another starting QB for next year. Do you think he can develop “good” QBs, but he just cannot evaluate talent? As an assistant and OC, how many of those successful QBs were evaluated and signed by him and how many were evaluated and signed by the HC or other coaches.

We needed to have a long drive to run the clock out. Especially with our poor defense. We ran the kickoff back and gave control of the last minutes of the game to a better coach.

I partially agree with the sarcasm here...Yes, the players are responsible for seemingly not knowing how to wrap up and make a tackle or the QB not being able to take the 8 yards that the defense is giving you every play. However, who's job is it to teach that? Additionally, who's job is it to enforce the standards? Who's job is it to ensure that if you've been taught the standard and refuse to uphold that standard then you can go ride the pine? There's only one correct answer to those questions.....COACHES. I think Heupel is more worried about being Mr. Nice Guy laughing, joking, and dancing with his team instead of instilling the discipline necessary to build a championship culture in the locker room. The perfect example of that was apparent last night going into the half when they showed Aguilar laughing and joking about the incompletions he just threw. How are you laughing and joking after getting punched in the mouth for the last 30 minutes? How are you not pissed off at how you and your teammates are performing? That's not a winning culture and it's a direct reflection of the man in charge.

We all generally agree. The question is what’s causing? Bad Coaching? Bad evaluations? Bad recruiting? Bad development? Lack of money?

Me? I think the issue has been mostly on the Defensive side (coaching) and Heupel was slow to realize and react.

I still believe Heupel is an excellent offensive coach and QB developer. Hopefully his moves in personnel on Defense will pay off in 2026.

- The Recruiting class was stellar (did we forget already?)
- VOLS have some very strong players returning but need to replace some and build depth. Bishop for Heisman!
- Portal will be huge (I hate hearing myself say that but it’s now the game)

Ok I do agree with most of the things you said but not everything. Now I played pee wee football, middle and high school football. And tackling was taught even when I was 9 years old. So by the time a guy gets to college, he more than likely has been playing football for what? 5+ years?

So you mean to tell me that tackling has to be taught to college players? Sorry I don’t buy it. How is that we see true freshman every year who seem like they know how to tackle really well? That’s not coaching. Just like our tackling problems aren’t a coaching problem. If it were then why weren’t we a super poor tackling team last year? What you mean Banks and the boys taught how to tackle last year but just forgot to do it this year?

Come on. It’s this simple. Jonathan Crompton said it. Ramon Foster and Jayson Swain has said it. AP and Hubbs have said. It’s INDIVIDUAL EFFORT. Coaches can teach you until they are blue in the face but the individual has to want it. And this year many of our guys just didn’t want it.

I find myself thinking back to Bitch’s tenure at Tenn. Started off ok, recruiting rankings improved, got to 9 wins, but couldn’t win an important game. Then came the rumors/gossip about lockeroom issues and then it crumbled quickly.
Same trajectory for Heupel, and now rumors of his leadership team not happy with the effort of a player last year and again this year, with no outward response from Heupel. This does not a happy united team make.

Last night was confirmation we are at a crossroads in the Heupel era. All momentum from previous seasons has evaporated and now more uncertainty than ever for CJH’s tenure moving forward. CJH had a really bad year as a HC.

I can't speak to the thoughts in the building. Not close enough to people to get a real read of those feelings.

In general, I think one of the bigger problems we have as a program is the undiciplined play in games. If none of the assistants (ala Cutcliffe) can be the disciplinarian then Heupel has to push that for the entire program and be that guy. Maybe Knowles is the guy that can do that but I don't know that he is. WIthout improvement in discipline play, practice and working to be better, I don't see long term success for this staff. Just my thoughts

You‘re all butthurt. It’s understandable. Nobody wins it all year in and year out. Gone be OK. Bama has fielded 142 teams and won 13 NCs. CJH is plenty good enough. Tradition, depth plays a role. Coaching is definitely instrumental. It’s tough to make it all come together.

I don’t agree. We have very little talent in the defensive secondary coupled with poor coaching there as well as the Oline and special teams. I am surprised that our opponents don’t score a lot more points than they do. I think the reason for poor performance on offense in the second half of many games is we run the same plays under the same conditions. The defense knows what we’re going to to run.

With the playoffs now a 12 team field, soon to expand, could we just say we finished in the top 10, unless you say, make it to the final 4 teams. Tenn made it last year as the 9th ranked team. Nice, but not what fans want.
It’s like a blue blood basketball team making the NCAA tourney for the 20th consecutive year, even if they were say 18-15 this season. Means nothing.

Defensive injuries,players going pro,and then some poor defensive coaching(don't know why type is this dark-new laptop given by daughter and son-in-law-millions of thanks)and poor coaching.If this was all called by Inge,thank goodness he will not be our DC.
