I think a lot of you are kind of missing the "new" calculus. NIL has genuinely leveled the playing field, and salaries being as insane as they are means a guy may not actually take a pay raise of a few million for the headache of some of these big-name programs. With the wild number of big openings and the NIL environment I think we may see the overwhelming majority of these schools get stuck with options none of their fans will be happy with in the immediate term. 
I think the days of simply outbidding other schools for coaches based on their salaries is done. And I think the big conferences are close enough to each other money-wise to entice a guy into staying for a couple million a year less in salary.
