Coaches We Have Contacted

I'm kind of in the same camp. I just looked all these guys up and thought yeah, this list is about like something the admin over there would come up with. Scares the hell out of me. I just don't think there's anyway Currie can hang on to Jones after the KY game though if we finish it with four straight losses and five SEC losses overall.

I'm with you...I thought, like most, they would fire Butch at the end of the season. And I was ok with this. I hoped there was a plan in place, and the natural progression would be that he was let go some time between the last game and the bowl game (although it's looking like a bowl game might not happen at this point). I realized the negative things that could happen with firing a coach in the middle of the season...it never works out great. But after this last loss, and seeing Butch's reaction to the final throw...he looked like he was watching a lunch lady make his plate in the cafeteria. No emotion whatsoever on the man's face. He's done! We all know the Butch that we see on the sidelines every week...he constantly looks like he's on the verge of a stroke. Not now...it could have very easily been his reaction to an off-tackle run on first down. No emotion. He's finished, at least emotionally. And we can't stand by while our Top 5 recruiting class dwindles down to Top 50 if we're lucky! If for no other reason than to save the recruiting class, we need to make a move now!

I have never heard of any of these guys. We are the Cleveland Browns of college football if we hire any of these schmucks.

Any billionaire who spends money on a college team is doing it because they want to... not because there's an ROI.

Ostensibly... trying to put myself in their shoes... if I'm good enough in business to become a billionaire then I don't like losing. I would feel worse about spending $4 million on a loser than $7 million on a winner.

I understand what you are saying in a way... but if money were the motive of the powers behind the AD then they wouldn't be doing it.

They do it to help the University no doubt about that and that have no obligation to do so but eventually people do get tired of bailing out athletic departments for poor coaching hires. You can't blame them for wanting to have some control in the hiring process as inept as they may seem

There is talk on the radio and Twitter about folks on TOS trying to sell the fan base on Mike Bobo. I truly hope that is garbage. We have to at least ask the big time coaches first. We cannot settle on this type of junk again.

I am sure we will/have. But that list is short. Realistically it's Kelly, maybe Mullen. I just don't think they'll ask Petrino. From there you go to the Mike Bobo, Neil Brown, Mike McIntyre, Phillip Montgomery, or an OC/DC--Schiano, Pruitt, Venables.

I'm thinking about how one would conduct a coaching search in this day and age while you officially have a sitting coach. It would have to be done covertly. This would undoubtedly involve a great deal of misdirection from multiple parties. Everyone is reporting what they are hearing but the information coming out is being controlled. So, you would need to think about who is reporting what and where the information is coming from. Plausible deniability would need to be maintained by all parties involved. From there, various trolls enter the fray which adds to the misdirection (which is just fine with the powers that be). IMO, if you put all that together you have our current situation.

nothing on CBJ being gone and it is too early for any real action on a replacement. I still don't believe he is back next year but the last 24 hours there is some talk that Currie really would prefer not to have to do it this year. I think he would have a difficult time selling that line of thinking but that chatter has been out there..

SMDH. I really do not understand this. LWS, help me understand HOW our AD could have this mentality! Of course, every AD in the country would prefer the sitting head coach to be successful and not have to fire him. However 4-1/2 seasons is a large enough sample size to know whether a coach has it or he doesn't. I simply don't understand how Currie would "prefer" not to fire Jones this season based on the product on the field. Waiting an extra year to pull the trigger only puts UT further behind the curve in getting a quality replacement. Plus, if this is about buy out money, we're going to lose a lot more than that when fans stop coming to the games, and that WILL happen if we keep playing they way we're playing. For once I would like to see this administration stop being on the trailing edge and be pro-active!

From a very reliable source in his 40's with the last name Bailey, the AD has started contacting coaches. He wouldn't give me any big names (hinted at some), but he gave me 4 smaller ones, some of whom have already been mentioned here. I give you, in no particular order:

1. Frank Wilson
2. Jason Candle
3. Neal Brown
4. Jedd Fisch

Obviously, as with any hearsay, take it with a large grain of salt.

Anyone giving any information at this point is just out of bounds...the administration doesn't even know FOR SURE what's going to happen and how...So how could a poster on Volnation POSSIBLY KNOW ANYTHING????? If you feel like you're being sucker 99 times out of 100 you are...Just a hunch but I think we're in for a long ride the rest of the season and many of you will burn out by November....and its a bit humorous actually....Kind of like video of a squirrel jumping on a motorized birdfeeder and getting slung off......you cant help but laugh at that stupid rodent hanging on for dear life as if something big is going to happen...and it never does...but he jumps right back on....

Wasn't Frank Wilson once on our staff with Kiffin and then he left for LSU??

Don't know about that, but during my undergrad years at UT - a long long time ago - there was a very popular song "Last Kiss" by J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers.

Okay, here is another name NOBODY is talking about -- Gary Pinkel. His story about being sick was BS. He left because of an affair that was about to come out, plus Mizzou was becoming toxic politically. Talk about a coach that can turn 3 stars into an SEC East champion -- he's proved it.

no. see post 198.
Brohm May Be Running at Tennessee

we should be better than this (I'm talking about the we--on Volnation)

Currie's silence on this issue would have to lead you to believe there's something happening behind the scenes to make a coaching change. If not then why not come out and publicly show support for your coach. Recruits that want to enroll early are going to start dropping like flies if not.

currie is doing what he should do. nothing publically.

imagine him coming out admonishing Jones publically after Saturday...the heat is then on him for "who's next then, and when can we expect him on campus?"

or imagine he comes out and gives him the vote of confidence, after the UGA game....then USCe loss, Bama loss..probable UK loss.......now he's an idiot.

there's absolutely zero good that can come from him coming out and stating anything publically, either way.

though i would imagine right now most of his efforts are rallying the boosters and figuring out who is actually going to be on the "list", while also sending out feelers on who may or may not be receptive to our overtures when the time comes.

also, none of which should be made public.

Some of you are setting yourselves up for yet another major disappointment and can't acknowledge that there is a chance CBJ will be the coach here next year, the only reason Dooley was fired was because fans stopped showing up. Fans are still showing up for CBJ and he is still coaching, it doesn't take a genius to figure out what means. Billionaires don't sit around all day long looking for a reason to waste millions of dollars and if you think they do you are kidding yourself.
If Tennessee loses to Bama and Kentucky, they won't show up for So. Miss!

i'll be there. money already spent, no shot at getting it back. only game we're going to, and we plan on having a good time with the kids, regardless.

Wow the first guy on the list has a 9 and 9 coaching record and 0 and 1 in Bowl games.

Jason Cadle is a MAC coach 15 and 5.

Neal Brown is 18 and 13 in the Sun Belt

Jedd Fisch is the OC for UCLA

We could almost hire all these guys for what were paying Butch. I don't think a one of them makes a million a season right now.

Your talking about a total head coaching record among them that is 42 and 27 in second tier conferences.

After saying all this could be true as this seems to be the way we always go and if we do it again I hope fans totally revolt. These names should not be on a Tennessee coaching list.

I have a source. Very close to the athletic department. He's in his late 60s. For the sake of privacy let's call him Phillip F. No wait that's too obvious. Let's just call him P Fulmer.
