Clemson's Success & Butch Jones

The fact that he turned around a lame duck oregon program and turned into national championship contenders.

Mike Bellotti did the heavy lifting at Oregon not Chip Kelly. Not to mention, I think he is damaged goods. Saban and Pete Carroll had modest success in the NFL. Kelly just captained a 2 win season for a bad 49er team. Besides, the Oregon system wouldn't work well in this conference. Smaller quicker players especially in the trenches would get smashed in SEC play.

Butch had his best chance this year. It will only be harder next year. We just have to hope we get a good AD so IF he fails again next year, we hire someone good.

We'll be better next year. Before you laugh, consider the following:

Odds are on our side for way fewer injuries after this year. I'll take John Kelly over the quitter - Kamara is a big talent, but we under-utilized him, so will we really miss him? We only lose Wiesman and Croom on the OL 2 deep (from MCB Media Guide depth chart). Only lose Sutton (missed him about half of this year), Foreman, Vereen and Barnett (we'll miss those two) on the whole defense 2 deep. Scheme-wise, we have to be better in Shoop's 2nd year. Most on here complained about Dobbs inaccurate arm the last 3 years. Surely Dormady has learned something in his first two years.

FL, GA and SC won't necessarily be any better. Vandy won't beat us 2 years in a row.

It's New Year's Day - start 2017 as optimists!

GBO!

Or Tennessee could do what Clemson has done the next few years if JG is the real deal.Clemson had Boyd(Dobbs) and then it was RS Watson(JG) turn to take the next step forward.

Man if Kiffin hadn't ran off Tajh Boyd.

He won his division 3 of his first 4 years and won the conference in his 3rd.

Yet there were grumblings among the fan base that he wasn't getting it done. When they won the conference in '11, they lost to GA Tech, NC St, USCe and got WALLOPED by 70-33 to WV in the Orange Bowl. He was on thin ice even though they won the ACC.

But yet lost games he should have won and was used as the example of how to lose in dramatic fashion.

Tommy Bowden coached there 10 years before Dabo and never won the division much less the conference. Dabo did all that 3 times in his first 4 years. Outside of his 6 win second year he has matched (once) and exceed Bowdens best year (9 wins) every year.

It didn't take him 6 years to figure out much.

Interesting note. Tommy Bowden got fired after seasons of 8, 8 and 9 wins.

And here people get up in arms when a coach that can't win his division gets questioned.

Your rock is calling O.P. Crawl back under it. This will be the best the strongest finish in recruiting that Butch has had so far. Some great athletes from great programs showing strong interests late.

The rise of Clemson spells out the end of Butch Jones at Tennessee. Butch made his living the past 4 years on strong recruiting but we saw this year that Clemson went into Temnessee's backyard and took what they wanted.

Tee Higgins, Hunter Johnson and Trevor Lawerence might only be the start of the damage Clemson can do to Tennessee's recruiting.

Recruting is one of the only thing Butch has going for him. Without top 10 classes he doesn't bring much to the table and won't last much longer.

If Clemson beats Bama...

I feel like this is a bit on the dramatic side.

If Clemson beats Bama... (leave them in suspense)

Bowden actually resigned. The AD went to talk to him because it was clear that Bowden had lost control of the lockerroom but the AD didn't intend to fire him right then. The AD said he was a little bit shocked when he offered his resignation immediately. But Bowden had serious problems with his players at that time -- they had stopped listening to him and he knew it. Hell, once he resigned the players even said they'd stopped listening to him.

Right on brother! People in today's time only want to praise the result, not the hard road taken to get there. Success most of the time is the result of lessons learned from failures/disappointment, it's rarely instant.

Because results are all that matter.

Yeah. He just up and resigned of his own volition. After all, there wasn't a gun to his head per Terry Don Phillips. That's why they paid him a $3.5 million buyout.
