Charlie Strong

Strong is a decent coach. He's a shade above Butch. But he turned us down when he had a chance to come here. The powers that be won't make that mistake again.

Did Butch pay you in bricks for that comment?

Also, Currie wasn’t here in 2012. He has no reason to not interview Strong if interested in Charlie.

Nice edit from "Currie is that you?"

He won't be interested because the boosters today was here in 2012.

Atleast you've moved on from Mullen. Lol

When you have to kick off 9-10 players in one season, it doesn’t matter how high your classes came in. Also, Mack didn’t develop any players his last two years either. Once again, doesn’t matter how well you recruit if you can’t develop. Strong basically had plenty of upperclassmen that were duds when he took over and bunch of underclassmen loyal to Brown.

He didn’t HAVE to kick off anyone. He CHOSE to do so...ala Kiffin in his lone season in Knoxville. Confident that he did so to establish his culture and establish discipline but ultimately it didn’t pan out. That’s on HIM. He had time to make his imprint and never did. All that and if he beats a pathetic Kansas squad, he gets another year. He’s a better coach than this but was a failure at Texas.

What are you talking about edit? You’re absurd. And I haven’t moved past Mullen. My top 3 hasn’t changed but I do have a top 5 since the season is halfway done. Happy to share.

1- Chip Kelly
2- Dan Mullen
3- Tee Martin
4- Chuck Strong
5- Les Miles

While I hope to not have to go past option 1, I think 2/3 are solid fall back options and 4/5 are better than hiring coordinators (outside of Tee) or other mid major/up and comer coaches with zero name ID or recruiting prowess.

Apples to oranges comparison.

Strong would literally be a Kirby Smart Hire. As long as he would find a good OC, we would be fine under him. We could definitely do MUCH WORSE than him.

He had 3 years and that’s all he got. You and a bunch of others thought the jury was still out on Butch Jones after the Florida screw up in year 5.

Tee Martin is getting hammered by USC fans and the West coast media. Might want to give him a few more years and see what happens. He isn't ready to walk into this job yet.

Hope he gets there. Would be nothing better than having UT blood in a HC. UT's coaching position isn't for OJT, as we're finding out with Butch.

Lol. Love Sandberg. Funny guy.

But you know exactly what I’m saying. The only way I want Strong is if he goes 11-1/12-0 at USF, which I think he does. If he does that and crashes the NY6, he would definitely be worth looking at if Chip and Gruden turn us down. At the end of the day, he would check some boxes for us in that he knows what it takes to have a top SEC defense, recruit South Florida better than anyone, and most importantly, he develops players. My only concern is his ability to hire a top notch OC. That seems to be his biggest issue.

Butchna, name one mid major coach or up and comer that would be a better hire than Strong if Chip and Gruden tell us no.

Strong is overrated.

Nobody in the SEC would be afraid of him if he came to Tennessee.

Literally, Texas is a Top 5 Program and couldn't win with the talent that was already there.

So you’re saying he doesn’t have the ability to recruit and coach top SEC defenses?

I want Chip Kelly as much as anyone but if he says no, along with Gruden, we need to be realistic about decent coaches to interview.

Im all in on Chuck Strong. Seen his team play last week.

That's the problem.

I don't want a "descent" coach that we have to take a chance on.

I want a proven HC that's won at a high level.

That's the problem with our Administration now. They don't want to spend the money to get great results. I want to win now!

That's why we're stuck with CBJ.

I agree. I want Chip. But I also am prepared that he could tell us no.

Kansas dude. Second win for KANSAS. And please don’t do the “this is what YOU GUYS thought” thing. It’s disingenuous. :hi:

Yep. Texas has enough talent to never recruit outside of it and still failed.

He never even got a chance to develope the guys he recruited for Texas. Are you purposely ignoring that fact or do you even know about the situation he was in during his time at Texas? He was only there 3 years!!

I love America. We can have these conversations just for fun. Love it!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Dude you was on this message board saying you’ll know all you need to know about Butch Jones after the Georgia game when we lost to Florida. That’s not a “you guys thought” thing”it’s what a lot of Butch supporters posted.

So if he loses to Major Applewhite or Scott Frost he good? Those are mid-major coaches. Gets into a NY6 bowl game and gets blasted? So he goes undefeated and I’m the AD in Knoxville? I hire Brohm,Durkin,Norvell,Frost,Venables et al (no set order) after I kick the tires on Kelly or the fantasy longshots. After that Strong and I order a lot of Knob Creek. :)

What did I say? If he goes 11-1/12-0. I also said if Kelly turns us down. Also, what happens if he goes 13-0 and wins a NY6. You still gonna call him overrated? It can go both ways here. That’s why I’ve been very clear on my conditions for considering him.

Brohm, Durkin, Norvell have zero name ID when it comes to national recruiting. Strong does. And he also has a great track record in the SEC regarding defenses.

Labels lil fella. :) BUTCH SUPPORTER. I back my COACH until there is no confidence. Florida was a Hail Mary loss. UMass pretty much did it but if we had mixed it up with Georgia better, I wouldn’t be where I’m at peace that he’s not the guy. Most likely rest of the season would sealed it but I don’t pretend like some of you that I’m prescient. I “support” THE COACH of the Vols. I did that for Butch and I’ll do it for his successor. My approach and no apologies. So deal and resume your witch trials. :hi:

Where did I say overrated? Same place I compared 1 and 5 game records? :wink2: Kirby Smart doesn’t get those instant recruiting results at Purdue and Strong didn’t at USF. I don’t buy he automatically saves this recruiting class and that’s the least of my concerns. I want a coach that will grow the program and I don’t see that with Strong. I feel more confident with the other names I opined. If Currie disagrees with me? Cool. He could’ve “failed”’ at Texas and kept me as stoked as when he spurned us...he bombed. He’ll get another shot at a big school. I hope we end up better. JMO.

I hope we end up better. With Chip Kelly. However, we have seen coaches turn us down. If we don’t hit the home run, we should hire a guy who has great recruiting prowess in the Southeast and can fix a major issue for us (our defense).

Strong does that. He’s not my 2 Pick but he would easily be in my top 5
