CFP rankings- so weird

indiana beat #9 Illinois by a landslide and they beat #3 Oregon on the road in dominant fashion.

TAMU hasn't done anything that impressive yet. they beat ND by a single point.

you can claim Illinois was a paper tiger but I could say the exact same thing about LSU and Missouri. LSU fired their damn coach. LSU and Missouri are just like Tennessee. neither one has a single impressive win the entire season.

like I said, if TAMU keeps winning they will rank higher than Indiana in the end, but up to this point I do not see it in their schedule.

As a game, football is pretty good at confirming who's best. But it's terrible at revealing who's best.

Since 1997, 1 out of every 2.83 (35.3%) of college football games have ended in an upset.

On that basis, I'd contend that bowl matchups are no less meaningful than CFP matchups. CFP results are meaningful only because Disney and everyone else who makes money off of the games says so.
(I'd include agents of college football coaches in that group, and for the same reason.)

I disagree. like it or not Iowa climbed into the ranking as was ranked when USC beat them.

I mean, if Tennessee beats Vandy badly and Vandy falls completely out of the Top25 does that mean Tennessee beat no ranked teams this year?

the fact is if you take an honest look at it Tennessee has done nothing impressive at all this year to say that they are better than any team ranked above them.

"we lost to 3 ranked teams" I'm sorry but who did you BEAT? Thats a much better and more important question. Saying "I think we can beat USC" is pure speculation and meaningless.

If UT beats Vandy, they still finish at 9-3 with some impressive wins. Your going to compare this Vandy team to f***king Illinois and Penn State?

Must be hell to go through life as such a negative, miserable SOB.

What are these "some impressive wins"? Losing record Kentucky, losing record Florida, losing record Mississippi State, losing record Arkansas?

first off who said anything about penn st? second Vanderbilt is thoroughly unimpressive. they beat marginal teams at best and no good teams. third you call me miserable and negative but then call me a SOB? it must be hell going through life as an @ss clown.

It doesn't matter where Iowa was ranked at the time. The judgments are based on final rankings, like it or not.
There's zero chance Vandy drops completely out of the rankings regardless of the score this weekend. Our resume will be judged based on where they are ranked after the game, though, and we will not be given credit for them being #14.
I would agree with the thought that we don't have impressive wins. We were impressive in our loss to Georgia, though. We also completely dominated Oklahoma but lost that game due to mistakes and turnovers. While we shouldn't necessarily be praised for those games, it is definitely more impressive than some other teams' results against top competition.
My comment about thinking we would beat USC has nothing to do with whether we should be in playoff consideration, just that I believe we are a better team than they are. Virginia has done nothing of note other than a win against Louisville. They have losses @ NC State and at home to Wake Forest. We should absolutely be ranked ahead of them, regardless of any playoff notions.
Since you feel that teams should get credit for their opponents' ranking at the time of the game, do you feel Miami should be credited with ranked wins over Florida State and South Florida?
Should Notre Dame's home loss to A&M count as a loss to the #16 team?

So, in one statement, you argue that USC should be credited for beating Iowa because Iowa was ranked at the time they played. Then you turn around and say Vandy only beat marginal teams, at best, even though LSU was a top 10 team and Missouri was a top 15 team at the time Vandy beat them. You should probably pick a side of the fence.

the judgements and actual facts are two different things though.

the fact is that if a team is ranked and you beat them then you beat a ranked team. nobody can take that away from you.

you can way down the line judge that however you want but facts are facts.

I would also say Texas A&Ms ranking is currently overinflated. I think they are closer to the #16 team that ND lost to. I could be wrong but Texas will tell us and also Georgia or Bama or whoever plays them in the SECCG. you could very easily see TAMU finish 16th.

Vanderbilt will be a top 20 team regardless of Saturday's result, that is the difference between them and the Illinois' of the world.

The SOB comment was unwarranted, but it still must be brutal to be so negative 100% of the time. Why even follow a sport that makes you so miserable?

no sir, those are not opposing view points. USC did in fact beat a ranked team. I never said it was impressive other than it's more impressive than anything Tennessee has done.

Vandy also gets credit for beating ranked teams. my statement about Vanderbilt is that they have done nothing impressive.

one statement is a statement of fact and one statement is a value statement.

I've been with you for most of this argument, but Vandy having 3 Top 15 wins is certainly impressive. Especially if you consider that Tennessee hasn't done that since 2001.
