These are insane numbers. And unlike the player and coach salaries, I doubt the business value actually supports it.
Does anyone watch a football game solely for the announcer? Let's be honest ... we'll all put up with some crap announcers to watch our teams. We complain about it, but most of us aren't watching 2 bad teams play just because Tony Romo or Peyton Manning is commentating on the bad teams; and most of us are watching our teams play even if some moron is the commentator.
Think there's a better argument that someone like Charles Barkley creates this sort of value than a football announcer. No one's watching 2 hours of TNT pre/post game coverage w/o Charles Barkley. Those viewers go elsewhere if it's Jalen Rose rather than Barkley.
In any case, if they really offer Peyton $20 mil, he should take it and not ask any questions. $20 mil per year for an easy job is insane money.
