CBS tried to hire Peyton.

These are insane numbers. And unlike the player and coach salaries, I doubt the business value actually supports it.

Does anyone watch a football game solely for the announcer? Let's be honest ... we'll all put up with some crap announcers to watch our teams. We complain about it, but most of us aren't watching 2 bad teams play just because Tony Romo or Peyton Manning is commentating on the bad teams; and most of us are watching our teams play even if some moron is the commentator.

Think there's a better argument that someone like Charles Barkley creates this sort of value than a football announcer. No one's watching 2 hours of TNT pre/post game coverage w/o Charles Barkley. Those viewers go elsewhere if it's Jalen Rose rather than Barkley.

In any case, if they really offer Peyton $20 mil, he should take it and not ask any questions. $20 mil per year for an easy job is insane money.

Why, butchna! Me hit you? I have no object in hand to do it with and no inclination to do so. Altho there are certain other VN'ers I'm inclined to do so with the Bear Gris machetes that adorn my central hallway wall. Word play aside, agree to disagree is pretty much what my preceeding post said.
Do you genuinely go off the rails or is this your chosen debate technique or yes?

NFL’s worth untold billions and negotiating for an extra game to double that figure. They gave Kaepernick $20 mil to shut up for a nanosecond. It was that or wipe a butt with it or light a cigar or...

12 years to double your money on index funds? This isn’t true. If it were people would be doing it all the time. Index funds pace well over time but doubling in 12 years is not accurate.

Well, that depends on timing, I suppose. Unless my mid-20th century, Appalachian taught ciphering is off (again!)............

SPY opened in January 1993 at about $45. 27 years later, its trading at roughly $295. $45 x 2 = $90, $90 x 2 = $180, $180 x 2 = $360. So if the index reaches $360 before 2029 (1993 + (3 x 12) years) it will have doubled 3 times in 36 years. It has already more than doubled twice in 27 years.

The NFL is "worth billions" because the networks are paying them that.

The NFL isn't paying announcer salaries. And some of these networks are already struggling to turn a profit on these hefty contracts they've given out.

So the value of the NFL isn't relevant. The value of incremental ad sales the networks do on the basis of having Romo / Peyton there is what matters. And I don't think it's $17+ million per year in ad sales.

A Super Bowl ad is worth that alone. Interest in the broadcasts drive that up. There’s a partnership involved with the NFL...so their financial status is extremely relevant. Peyton doesn’t get this green doing monster truck commentary...it’s a bargain him talking up the league. Interest dipped after his retirement. Something there. ESPN jacks up twice what NBC dispenses for Sunday night because it’s vital to their legitimacy $17+ mil is chump change in the big boy world. Bad announcing crews and worse viewer reaction have made that a money pit. If Peyton reverses that, he’s worth 10 times the investment.

Lead pipes=chosen debate techniques. Gotcha. Missed you when you were doing that Sherpa gig for a couple of years.

Funny thing is, I may be forced to return to that gig whether I want to or not, which I don't. Really strange you'd raise that up at this time. Incredible coincidence.

If he was smart, he'd enjoy his hard-earned money while he's still relatively young and now stress-free.

He is smart. First of all, he likes to work and I don't think this kind of work will stress him out. The football season doesn't even cover half the calendar year and he can be home during the week.

Over/under on PM taking the MNF gig vs being Vol OC is what 20 million to 1? Or nah?

I think he does it because he has a communications degree and that's what his post football plan has always been. It's not really a day to day grind, keeps him in the game and the endorsements flowing. I don't see why he wouldn't for that kind of money.

But how on earth would you have any idea?

Bet there’s a sizable contingent that would for him. Some just to project hate. It’s a name brand. If Jordan broadcast NBA games would there be an audience that didn’t care about the teams he was announcing? I’d tune in and I was never a personal fan.

I guess SOME would. But for how long really? Admittedly I may tune in for first couple games just to see how he does but personally it’s about the teams on the field for me. If I’m not interested in the match up I wouldn’t waste my time.

When in Rome.

This isn't Rome. I don't air my seriously personal issues online but be assured this isn't Rome.n I wish it was, though. It's just one of those things that reminds you of an irrevocable fact. Over and out on that.

There’s more than you that will do it more than some.

I didn’t think the phrase would stoke that reaction.

More than Tony Romo? ESPN preparing to offer Peyton Manning $20 million for MNF, per report

Interesting article. I also read another where ESPN wants Peyton and Al Michaels for MNF. I would be shocked if he actually did it, but he may be able to basically name his price.

Anyone think we will see him in the booth next season?

Man I just gotta ask. Is that you in your avatar pic? If so, are you wearing eye liner (not that there is anything wrong with that)? It’s just all I can see when I see that pic.
