CBB Transfer Portal

If bone does leave we almost have to grab someone from the transfer market. We would only have two pg’s, which happens but it’s ideal to have 3.

I believe Q needs a second look and a chance to stay at home. JMHO as always!

Hey, Barnes is being paid good money to make these decisions. If he decides to head into next season with Turner and James as the options at point, that's his call. If we got another PG, that would give him some flexibility with James. Gotta say I'm not that comfortable with what we have with Walker, Burns, Pons, Fulkerson and Kent....and hell, that's almost half the roster.

Is Isaiah Ihnen still in play? That kid has a beautiful outside shot. Reminds me of Kyle Wiltjer with his length and release.

What about Burns makes you uncomfortable?

I wonder how many current Vanderbilt players will look to transfer now that Jerry Stackhouse has been named head coach and if UT is also looking at Dazon Ingram of Alabama as a possible transfer option as well as Lewis?

Geez...uncomfortable with the 2 highest rated players on our team. Rest easy, chicken little.

I wasn't impressed with Turner running the offense when he spelled Bone. He was fine defensively. James is a true freshman. Don't care how high he's rated, he's yet to prove anything as a college player in the SEC. The same could be said for any freshman coming in. I'd feel much better if we had another proven/experienced PG on the roster. Just think we need to find someone from the transfer portal to add a little extra depth at the spot. If we can't get experience, I'm on board with Que as a backup plan.

I provided you Bone and Turner's respective stats during the 6 postseason games in an earlier post. At worst, they played equally well. I'd argue Turner outplayed him when I consider both ends of the court. Sure, we'd all love some additional depth, and we will most likely wind up getting some.

I just think our coach and our team have earned the right to fail on the court before you throw dirt on them. Barnes has earned my trust.

I am an Alum of Saint Louis University and I also follow the Billikens Basketball team as well as the Vols. The following was posted today about a potential rule change the NCAA may make for the 5th year grad transfers. I was just wondering if anyone else was aware of this possible change? I am copying this from the Billikens fan website.

In two weeks, the N.C.A.A.’s primary legislative body, the Division I Council, will vote on a measure that could severely restrict graduate transfers. The proposed rule change would require that colleges accepting graduate transfers be docked a scholarship the next year if the transfer does not earn his secondary degree within a year.
The proposal, which could go into effect as soon as Aug. 1, would apply to only three sports — football, women’s basketball and men’s basketball — but appears particularly aimed at men’s basketball.
Justin Sell conceded objections about practicality (many graduate programs take two years to complete) and fairness (the rule does not apply to athletes who compete as graduate students without transferring) were fair, but said his group’s intent was to “manage behavior.”

I am in favor of that rule

I'd rather just see them do away with grad transfers instead, if given those two options. It doesn't seem fair to punish the school for a kid refusing to fulfill his academic requirements to obtain a degree. The schools have no manner of leverage in which to enforce a student to return for a year once his eligibility is up.

Bad rule for the kids, and I think totally wrong because of it.

If a kid is a grad transfer then he/she has done exactly what they were supposed to do.......get an education. Now they should be punished for doing that? And believe me this is a punishment in the kid. If the kid has say one year of eligibility left and transferres they have to do more than others? Or they have to stay when others could simply leave. Sure this looks like it is on the school but “most” of the kids simply won’t get the chance with 1 year left and a school having to cover for 2.

Why should any kid be even remotely forced to stay at any school if they have completed their duty to the school and or program? Many of these kids didn’t get the chance at larger schools for whatever reason. They play at a certain school, graduate, and improve their skills enough that now they have the opportunity to go to a school they wanted in the first place..........but an ncaa rule SHOULD hold them from doing so (in some cases)? Stupid

I could be wrong but I think your last part is the key. Schools won’t do it........except some strange circumstances (have a chance at a super talent, or you have to fill a spot, etc).

For most of these kids it will all but do away with grad transfers. For me that is a punishment on the kid, not the school......as the schools will get kids from somewhere regardless.
