Carolina Panthers

depth chart at QB doesn't mean a lot right now. Let's wait and see what happens at camp and in the preseason games. Even Cantwell had a big preseason game (quarter) last year.

Steve Smith broke his arm in a flag football game yesterday and underwent surgery last night. Initial reports are that he could possibly be ready for the season opener but that's not a definite.

Gotta love these injuries piling up. Damn....

wow, just beat me to it

how long's the out usually for a WR with a broken arm?

They say just a couple months but the problem here is that he broke the exact same arm that he did last year against the Giants in almost the identical spot.

All that may cause the healing to take longer than expected but it's an unknown at this point....

ESPN I think reported that it wasn't the same spot though. I mean I'm not sure that means it was or wasn't near the same spot (or how close to it) but that should at least cut off somewhat from potential "worst case" recovery time, right?

Man reading this NFC South Blog is making me pretty depressed...

Carolina drafted Brandon LaFell, Armanti Edwards and David Gettis this year. The Panthers also have Dwayne Jarrett, who’s been a bust since coming into the league. Other than that, the roster looks like this: Trent Guy, Dexter Jackson, Charly Martin, Kenneth Moore, Wallace Wright and Oliver Young.

That is one bad stable of receivers.

Yeah I just heard it wasn't the exact spot, so that's a relief. I'm hearing all he'll miss is training camp and most of preseason...

Didn't realize Jackson was still part of the team. Amazing how the Panthers have zero Vols, but two App State players.
Smitty is a stud and will be back in time to score again in New York. I don't expect Jarret to step up like some are hoping. I just now wish we still at least had Moose. He was old, but at least he was more reliable than Jarret.
I hated the drafting of LaFell when it happened, and apparently Gettis is not ready to make an impact in the league. I sure hope Edwards can get used to the new position soon. He might be needed.

Yep. Our lack of WRs is really troubling. The FO has ignored it for years and it's going to bite us really soon unless something gets done because we only have one veteran at the position and the rest are going to take a while to become legit receivers, if they do.

We need to look at free agents or trades but you know how conservative our front office is so it probably won't happen....

I'd be okay with T.O., but I think Keyshawn made sure Carolina would never pick up a guy like that again.

A couple of updates here.

Eric Norwood (love this guy) and Tony Pike ink deals.

Adam Schefter is reporting that Smitty will miss a total of 10 weeks, which puts him in line to definitely be ready for the season opener.

Panthers Update:

John Fox is headed to the Middle East to visit with our troops which is a classy move on his part.

Also, we are going to utilize the safety Pugh right away on special teams and from what I'm hearing, he is apparently going to give either Godfrey or Martin a run for their money for the starting spot (not sure if that's encouraging or not...).

Boring update I know but this is truly the slowest time of the offseason.

Here's an update for ya, I can't stand Brandon LaFell. He got drafted based on his performance as a junior, then he dropped a ton of balls as a senior. I didn't want us to draft him.
Now, I follow him on twitter, and he seems like a complete moron. Just some of the things he says remind me more of an Atlanta player.
I'm sorry, I shouldn't have taken it that far!

I really don't mind the LaFell pick and I know from this post and others that you hate it so we'll have to agree to disagree lol.

He did have a lot of drops in college but made some spectacular catches and blocks as well.

Hopefully he works on what his game lacks in the time off before training camp because I'm truly excited about or WR corps' future but I'm nervous (probably like every other Panthers' fan) about them this year. But we'll see...

im a dolfins fan but i remember that run deangelo did breaking all those tackles against the fins...beast mode

It really was man. Rip off large chunks of yardage with D. Will, then pound it in between the tackles with J. Stew. A thing of beauty :good!:

How you feeling about the Fins this year? Good start to the offseason with the pickup of Marshall.

I will agree that he throws a big block like he's a Hines Ward fan. I think I'll just have to drop his twitter because he frustrates me on a daily basis.

looking real good man..miami already had a great running game, they just needed a big time playmaker on the outside to help henne ... the defense is young, fast and tough..let see what happens!

is matt moore really the starter in carolina? or do you expect jimmy to take over..

btw i wanted to asked a panther fan this..how do you feel about julius pepper leaving? was he overrated?

He had big years, and then he would disappoint, and so on. It hurts, but he was never worth $1 million+ per game.

Hey pit stains, how about we make a wager on the 9ers v. Panthers game this year?
