Carolina Panthers

Any bit of joy I was beginning to feel was just destroyed when the Panthers traded Chris Harris to Chicago for Jamar Williams. WTF!!!
We have zero strong safety depth. We will probably move Charles Godfrey to SS and just be incredibly soft at the position. This is terrible.

My thoughts too.

Mike Florio From Friday WFNZ-AM
This is the radio interview with Mike Florio defending why he WON'T go on air with Smitty. I hate to sound like a homer here, but I completely support Smitty on this one. I think Florio got caught in a big lie. It's not secret that he loves to dog on him anyway. He still hasn't dropped the Ken Lucas ordeal.

It wasn't. I've heard of ProFootballTalk, but I don't know the guy by name.

Refusing to go on air with somebody is pretty petty in any case. Especially when the guy is a superstar and it's your job to be objective.

Sounds like Florio is acting bigger than reality in this case.

I wouldn't have too much optimism for the season. The FO is clearly playing the "let's save money before the lockout" game. 8-8 is what I see as a likely finish with this team, so they won't be bad...just not playoff worthy.
The offense should be fun to watch with a young competent QB (Moore), the best running-back duo in NFL history, one of the top five receivers in the league, and a stout o-line. I just hope someone can step up to at least play as well at the #2WR spot as Moose did.
The defense is a different story. The jury is still out on Meeks, but I can't help but notice that our line will be very young and inexperienced while our secondary will be...well, young and inexperienced. Trading Chris Harris was a mistake.
At least we have a solid LB group.

I'm sorry, but I just don't agree with this. Harris was a great leader and good hitter but he was SLOW and out of position in a lot of situations.

I personally like the new look of our safety position with Martin, who stepped up greatly when called upon and Godfrey. They both are ballhawks and can make big INTs when needed and are worlds better in coverage than Harris so we can blitz more often.

As far as the Dline is concerned, you're right, they have virtually no experience so it's a roll of the dice. I truly don't know what's going to happen with them but I still think we have a much better year than last year.

I just don't see Godfrey getting the job done. He gets beat a lot, and won't be as big of a hitter as Harris. The Martin shift could work out, but I see CGod as the weak link on our safety line up this year.
It will be nice to see what Moore can do with a full season.

I bashed Meeks a lot early last season but the defense did seem to grasp his system better as the season went on. Hopefully we can stay relatively injury free and take advantage of an easier schedule this year. As down as I was, I think we'll match last year, at the very least.

I think we can both agree on one thing, it's a make or break season for Godfrey this year and he knows it. We'll see what he's got.

I've got my fingers crossed...

Panthers got horrible news today. Thomas Davis re-tore his ACL in his knee and is out for the season.

Likely will not return to the Panthers and probably will never be the same type of player he was. Good luck to TD in his future endeavors.

DAMNIT!!! I guess that Harris trade might end up paying off if this guy from Chicago can come in and take that weak-side starting roll. I just hope they don't move Beason there.

You're right, Jamar Williams is probably going to be the guy. We'll see what he's got. :dunno:

I'm just so upset for TD. He worked his tail off all offseason and now might never be the same again.... Reminds me of Dan Morgan in a lot of ways.

Thomas Davis was one of my favorites. I was partial to him being from the SEC and loved seeing him hit.

Just when I was talking about avoiding injuries...

The Panthers are inking some rookies now.

Greg Hardy (DE Ole Miss)
Jordan Pugh (S/CB Texas a&m)
David Gettis (WR Baylor)
R.J. Stanford (CB Utah)
Robert McClain (CB UConn)

I really like all of these guys and see a lot of potential.

Maybe it's best to just say, he's not starting right off the bat. They'll put him in when he's ready
