Funchess will have to get good in a hurry. Ginn will have to step up. I think Reggie Wayne is still out there. They should give him a call.

Remember we went 12-4 with an old Smitty and Brandon freaking LaFell.
Cotch will get these guys in line and Olsen will be the #1 target. Brown will be the most productive WR and Funch/Ginn will offer good options. NFC South is still ours!

i wish i felt the same way. all i can think about is we finally get healthy Cam, we actually have some weapons for him and boom, not so fast.

i think this is a huge blow for our season. and while i certainly hope you're right, i don't see any defense getting scared of the likes of our WR's. they'll load up to stop the run and contain cam in the pocket, and dare us to beat 'em with his arm.

and i'm a Cam fan. but he's not joe montana or tom brady or peyton manning. i don't see him as the kind of QB that can elevate WR's playing around him.

howevah, if i'm wrong about that, this would be the perfect time to prove it.

sadly, though, i think our defense keeps us in games, but i don't know that an injury plagued JStew, a questionable offensive line, and unproven WR's can WIN games for us.

basically, i'm bummed out about this. big time. having a hard time finding that silver lining.:cray:

If they money to make a reasonable offer to someone like Santana Moss or Reggie Wayne, I hope they do it. The division is easily winnable. Don't be cheap.

I disagree about Santana Moss and I doubt they'll sign Wayne. I think Welker could be a lot of help, but in all honesty, Cam isn't the best QB for him if he wants to remember his name ten years from now. I'd hate to see a man die on our field.
Knowing Gettleman, I don't really anticipate any moves at all. We'll spread out Philly and Ginn and try to send Funchess over the middle. If Stewart can stay healthy, it could work. If ANYONE else on offense goes down, it could be a disappointing season. Especially with all the hype we had going even a week ago.

Another tiny slot guy isn't going to help anything. With Hill and Benjamin both gone, Funchess is going to have to grow up in a hurry

I wasn't very optimistic about the offense coming into the season and now with Benjamin gone I believe it will be struggle to win 8 games.

I hope I'm wrong, but with the exception of Newton, Olsen and an injury prone Stewart the Panthers offensive weapons are laughable.

Please let me be wrong

I know it's preseason, and preseason results typically mean less than nothing....BUT....winning close, ugly games by scoring late and/or taking some chances has been a Panthers staple for the past couple of seasons.

Funchess is good, I just don't think he's good enough to be a #1 as a rookie. But he's probably better than most of the WRs Cam has had

Funchess needs to come on in a big way (ala Benjamin last year) in order for the Panthers to have a successful season. They also need to help Cam out with play-calling, as I believe the RB stable is strong and Olsen needs to be a featured target in the offense.

In summary, I don't think all is lost just yet...

KB, RK, and FA all injured. there will be an eventual Jstew injury, if history repeats itself, and an O Line injury.

just too much lost before we get started. margin for error is razor thin, and injury attrition is razor thin. and we haven't even gotten started yet. hate being a debbie downer, but you wait all off season for what you think could be a good year, and the rug gets pulled out from under you before the 1st snap? just a lot to ask for for 'everything' to work out for us from this point forward during a 16 game schedule.

Strong defense and a solid running game. That recipe can get you very far (Seahawks last 2 seasons). I think this RB stable is underrated and the potential is there to have a very stout defense. The question is going to be the passing game, and unfortunately, Cam is going to have to spread it out to more guys with Kelvin's injury. It's up to the young guns to step up, mainly Funchess and Philly Brown.
