Candace Parker gets into scuffle...(merged)

It was way too random, not to mention why would the league put one of their marquee players at risk like that? You did see the player wheeled off didn't you? I just don't buy it.

Did you see how she got hurt? She was holding a teammate back and pulled a Milton Bradley. I do think the league was in on it.

. . . Parker got stuck with what Lisa Leslie got away with. She was the one who I saw in the ruck throw one of her notorious elbow shots at the Detroit assistant coach.

Parker wasn't innocent in her actions but my hope is that she hasn't allowed LL & LA to corrupt her Lady Vol spirit.

What did Lisa Leslie do? You say you saw her throw one of her notorious elbow shots at the Detroit assistant coach? When did this happen, was it after she was shoved by the asst. coach or before?

You say Parker wasn't innocent in her actions? I was watching last night too and I didn't see Candace do anything until she was run over by that Detroit player. It didn't show it in the replay but after that player ran over Candace I heard Candace grabbed the player, pulled her down and punched her. What's wrong with that, is Candace just supposed to smile, lay there and see what the player who ran over her does next? I think not, if Candace punched the player, she was right in doing it, it's called self-defense.

Women's teams at alot of schools don't ruin the school's economy. Look at the thread with Forbe's list and you'll see that the schools on that list still profit.

For instance, UT profits $33 million a year, and there were 6-7 schools ahead of that mark.

What I want to know is what UT does with said profit? Do they roll it into stocks/bonds/savings or do they reinvest it in the community or roll it into next year's budget? If I were their financing guy, they'd have alot more than $33 million profit by the time 365 days rolled by...

Don't get it, what's the WTF??

The WTF is wondering how any of us would want to watch the "attractive and well built women" play basketball. First off, they aren't exactly supermodels. Second, watching WNBA basketball is like having two games on tv, one NBA and one the NBA developmental league, and saying well the NBAD plays hard I think I'll watch that while knowing full well a more athletic version of the same game is being played on a different channel. Womens professional sports are kind of ridiculous, who wants to watch a worse version of what the men are playing? The only time I'll ever watch a womens professional sport is if the teams out there are naked. Just tell me, what's the point? Title IX is stupid.

Women's or men's basketball was not factored into the $33 million revenue and $17 million profit. That was just football.

Sorry, but if women's professional basketball were played naked, I'd get rid of cable. Maybe throw out my televisions just to avoid the risk that I might accidentally have my retinas burned out during the sports section of the local news. I'd sure as hell never wander into a sports bar. Gawd knows what they are going to have on the tvs in there.

Haha, yeah I was thinking about that. I think even then I wouldn't watch it. If I wanted to see girls play sports naked I'd just watch porn. The competition might not be that good by by god the women would look better

how on earth would it be funded?

Look, I'm not getting into this ridiculous argument again and taking up a half a day when I could actually be productive. If you honestly believe that a female college sport would not get funding without men's athletics that's fine with me. How does any college without successful sports teams fund any of their programs? Boosters, taxes, fees.....

you're exactly right. boosters would be pouring money in by the truckload for the prestige that comes with having a stout womens hoops team.

Would this be one of the "hard-bodied women" you were referring to??

You guys are pretty quick to criticize unattractive women. I wonder how attractive most women would think you guys are? I guess I keep forgetting that the only time it's impressive when a woman does something athletic is when she is naked! God, how silly of me!

not naked, but nearly naked. I guarantee you that beach volleyball is the most watched womens sport and it isn't because of the athleticism on display.

Beach volleyball is great. So are hot women. I also enjoy women's athletics because I love sports and I love competition. I know that it's a cliche but there are aspects of women's sports that you won't find as much in men's pro sports. Women have every right to compete just like little league kids. Have you ever watched a midget or supermidget football game? Ha, it's the most ridiculous thing you'll ever see and it is completely funded by the parents of the participants and their community. Is everyone really agreeing that because it makes no money and most of the women aren't good looking that they have no business existing? I understand not liking or watching it but being intentionally offensive to the fans and athletes of the sport is going to far and makes you look like a sexist, ignorant jerk.

I'm pretty freakin' sexy! My wife is hot so I don't really care what other women think about me.

I'm fine with that, as long as I don't have to watch them try to play basketball.

Guess what? The beauty of it is that you don't! Unless you're just UT junkie like me. I feel obligated to watch the WNBA any time a former Lady Vol is playing. I also feel obligated to watch and enjoy watching the Lady Vols. How can you not respect and admire what Pat Summitt has built in an SEC football town Knoxville?

Watch women play sports naked? That's very crude, rude and demeaning. Women's sports are not ridiculous, Title IX is not ridiculous. Any "man" that makes comments like that seem to be the ones who think all "blonds" are dumb. Blond can come from a bottle you know. I hope to see women's sports become more and more prevalent and I plan to do any and all I can to see it happen. Also I don't believe for one minute that incident with the scuffle was staged or put on for show. I just saw on the sports TV they announced that player last night who fell to the floor tore her ACL and will be out for the rest of the season but I guess that's a lie too. I'm done with this discussion, it's getting ridiculous.

Just one more and I'm out of here. I have a lot of respect and admiration for Coach Summitt. I finally got to meet her this past December, 2007. I got to talk with her and exchange stories about the 6 on 6 play early on in basketball for women in high school. Coach Summitt is just as nice as I've always heard she is. Players and former players are blessed when they can play ball for Coach Summitt. She makes them a better person all the way around, she teaches them things that stay with them the rest of her lives. I knew while I was talking with the Coach that I was in the company of a very special woman. Coach also makes sure her players graduate with their degrees. She is role model material, we need more women like Coach Pat Summitt.

Do you feel obligated to watch an Arena League game every time a former UT player is playing? How about the CFL or NBA D League?
