think about how crazy that is.... Believing a GA is equivalent to a guy that's coached for 20 years anywhere.
I think some of us wonder why we have to go from zero to one. I don't expect Sarkisian but can we please for once at least move the needle a hair? I guess that's just too much to ask and I'm a selfish greedy so-and-so for wishing for so much.
I get it. But Bob Shoop was a hire that moved the needle, and he hasn't lived up to the hype to this point.
DeBord was a hire everyone hated, but did a nice job in the two years he was here, imo.
I think Shoop is a hire that moved the needle for some UTK fans who thought too much of him because of his boss' success against the Vols. Some of us would like to, you know, hire some people with deep SEC/ACC ties who can deliver some recruits when they're not not developing the players and figuring out how not to be in the right place on third and long.
I'd say that puffing up someone like Canales because one may suspect that is the best we're gonna get could cause another one to entertain the notion you allude to.
I'm gonna hope it stays a rumor. In the meantime, I'll continue to freak out over something that may not happen and that I have no control over because the past several years have taught me that if a bad decision concerning UTK football can be made, it probably will.

Funny that results and big names usually go hand in hand.
I can't stand Butch Jones' offense but I've slowly come to like the thought of Scott at OC a little. It is a crap shoot hire but I am happy with Scott proving a capable play caller and I'm ok with Butch being canned if it doesn't work.CBJ stated he isn't looking to change the offense. Most on here are upset that this means promoting Scott to OC. All I'm saying is the quicker people realize that we'll be running the same (2nd best in SEC) offense the quicker they'll get over this splash hire dream. Butch is going to live and die by his offensive system and the system really isn't the issue.
