My grandmaw used buttermilk and mayonaise in her cornbread and heated bacon grease in the cast iron skillet to start the crispy crust as soon as the batter hit the skillet as it went into the oven. I bet a certain poster's grandma probably used boxed cornbread mix in a glass casserole. Now he doesn't like it.
Jeez now fossilfiction has a bad grandma.
This posturing is killing me...."Ya'll are all bona fide, online ****ry boys".
Good on ya'll.
And cornbread is pretty sucky. Its nothing special, a remnant of prior, poorer times for some maybe, an affectation for others.
True test, jeffroes.... do you take the basket of cornbread at cracker barrel???? Or do you take biscuits?
What is your choice????
I thought so.
Dad taught me how to make cornbread when I was old enough to see over the counter. Martha White cornbread and Purity buttermilk. That is all it takes. Mix cornmeal and buttermilk to a consistency that will pour. Line a square, 4 or so deep pan with Crisco, dusted with some cornmeal, preheat oven to 450 degrees pour mix into pan, insert in hot oven, and ready when brown. Every meal with everything. Especially white beans and wilted lettuce, onions, radishes, a little hot grease and vinegar. Yum! Goes good with stew too. Had some with my ribs, corn on the cob, baked beans and taters tonight. Kinda like sweet tea or breakfast with grits and country ham for us Tennessee men.
Typical supper for me growing up was skillet-made cornbread, soup beans, fried taters, sometimes along with a slab of fried country ham but sometimes we had salmon patties or other stuff. Sweet tea to drink, of course. Sometimes on weekends wed have chocolate gravy to pour over Mamas fine biscuits at breakfast.😋
Now, my old man used to freak the whole family out by crumbling his cornbread up in buttermilk, and drinking it like a milkshake. Not for me, no thanks.
Okay man. I am thinking you are taking this way too seriously. I didn't back down from anything and I still think it sucks, hence it doesn't do it for me. If you really want to get bent out of shape because a food doesn't resonate with someone then that is your choice. Enjoy your day.
