CAN TENNESSEE BE FIXED?

Not by this AD and coach. It's clear we've regressed. We fired an assistant in mid season. A lot of top recruits wanted to see how this program "progressed" under this staff. I'm certain our current commits are also watching with interest. I have a very hard time seeing this class remaining intact much less being improved upon. On top of that, we're facing the one time transfer rule. I'd be very, very concerned about losing some of the more talented players on the roster. Can't really see a reason to stay the course with this AD and coaching staff another year. Just another missed opportunity to get a proven SEC caliber head coach and we have to endure yet another miserable season with little hope for improvement.

This mess could all be fixed with better QB play. We haven't even had mediocre QB play since Dobbs left. If you don't have better QB play than your opponent, you're more than likely going to lose to them. You either have to have a better QB or a defense that causes your opponent's QB to play worse than yours. Neither of these has happened consitently in the last 4-5 years that JG has been playing. I think you roll with HB and let him learn on the fly. He will make mistakes, but at least we will all feel like we're playing for the future. It would at least instill some hope that we're trying to get better. Doing the same thing over and over (JG) and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity and think we can all currently relate to this.

Can Tennessee football be fixed? I’m not asking if Pruitt should be fired or about the numerous mistakes of the past 15 or more years. I’m asking if this program is doomed to mediocrity forever.

My nephew was born in 1998. He’s really never seen a dominant Tennessee team that he can remember. You’ve lost a Generation of potential fans and recruits to other SEC teams. How do you stop the bleeding.

Winning is a habit, but so is losing. Tennessee now has the image of a losing program. It doesn’t matter if we have top facilities or we get 4 or 5 star recruits, we don’t do anything with it.

How do we fix this mess? Can we fix this mess? And will it happen in my lifetime? I’ll always be a Vol fan, but they are a painful team to follow.
Depends on your definition of fixed. I don't think TN will ever be back to a consistent National or even SEC championship contender. I do think TN can be fixed so that they are consistently winning 8 games though with an occasional season where we are in contention for the SEC.

You can't say zero player development and be taken seriously. TooToo is playing lights out. He is all over the field. Now I totally agree we have screwed the pooch on the offensive side of the ball. I would fire the entire Offensive Staff and go from there. I know some of you will say it is an excuse but we are young on defense and we are thin at a lot of spots on defense. We are improving. Way too slowly but, we are improving. Pruitt is right when he says we are having trouble getting lined up and making the right reads on defense. Some of that has to do with Covid and the lack of Spring, Fall camps, and quarantine due to exposure. Most of our competition didn't have anywhere near the restrictions on them that Knoxville's rules place on our team. Some of it falls on the staff. Mix all these things up and you have our Team. GO VOLS!

We have to get a great qb and play him and let him develop
There you go. Every program is one great quarterback from success. That’s how important qb play is in football. The offense has to be able to outscore what the defense gives up, whatever that number is. See Josh Dobbs, Jay Cutler, every Oklahoma QB, etc. If we had Lawrence right now with everything else the same we’d be a pretty happy group.

Vanderbilt is still the doormat of the conference, but UT has become the laughing stock.

Not sure i agree with many saying To"o is playing great. He gets taken many times by the rpo. One reason the slants are working so well is because the LBs are crashing in on the rpo, leaving the middle wide open.

We have NO linebackers that play good pass defense, including To'o.

I think so, but the last 3-4 weeks have been a tremendous set back.

Pruitt's stock is at an all time low. Maybe he can't fight his way out of it. I'm not holding my breath, but with the buyout he's going to get the time. Might as well hope for the best.

The color guy commented on this last night (Jordan Rogers?). He indicated a play where we did play the slant properly with inside position. Then openly wondered why we messed it up the next 3-4 times in a row. Sigh.

If we had Dobbs on this team they would probably be 5-1

“...money is the answer for everything.”

Ecclesiastes 10:19

So yes. If we’re willing to spend the cash on a proven head coach.

We have lost an entire generation of Vol fans. There are millennials who have no experience seeing a successful Tennessee football program. That might not matter now, but these should be your future donors and future fans. They’re growing up supporting winning programs like Bama. Eventually, this will hit you in the wallet at the Athletic Department. Who will be your future donors and ticket buyers if you lose this generation?
