Can Someone Remind Me Why We Are So Worried About WVU Again?!?

Like I said, I could honestly care less what you do with your money, I just dont get it. You will have to explain your outfit to others, you would have to do so if you wore both at the game, that's all on you. I know it is unpopular to voice opposition to something so trivial, I just dont get doing this, unless you have a child on both rosters. Even then you would have to explain it, if you want to do that all game good on ya, I'd just rather sit and watch the game . But again you do what makes you happy champ.
What is there to get? Dude loves both schools.. No explanation needed..

I would bet that precious few of us have seen WVU play or have any idea what they have. Until I read Will Grier's name, I couldn't name a player on their team. We won't know what we've really got until we start playing live competition. It is wild speculation when you match up against a team you rarely pay any attention to from another conference and you aren't at all certain of what your own team's got starting out a new season with new coaches and schemes. We can talk with some certainty postgame on the 1st of Sept.
West Virginia is a 6-7 win team

If Bama couldn't hang 70 on us during our worst season in history, then I'm pretty sure the almighty WV won't.

I hate to admit it. But yes Bama could have hung 70 on us multiple times since 2008. 2 of the 3 Dooley years. Of course Nick post gamed @ how impressive we were too. And 2 of the BJ years iirc. Not to mention UO who literally could have hung 80, but relaxed. Auburn comes to mind around 14', and Kirby patronized us last year.

Saban has taken his foot off the gas many times in the 3rd friggin quarter. To me that's more embarrassing than hanging 70. The University of Tennessee Football team has been in multiple games in the past 10 years where the opponent has chosen to be merciful so as to not embarrass is further.

Heres to hoping our new AD is more embarrassed than I am, and is angry enough to do something about it.

Jackson absolutely destroyed at least one of what was considered to be a good team
They did beat FSU. But that same team turned around and lost to UNC two weeks later before putting it together. But I'll give you that.

My main point was Louisville got blown out by Houston that year and lost to Kentucky. Lamar got that Heisman for his box score stats from blowing out bad teams (and FSU) because Bobby likes to run up the score. He deserved it 100%, but he wasn't as good as his stats show he was.

Will Grier is a good QB. For sure. But I just don't think the fact he's gonna throw for 400 yards and 5 touchdowns against The Pennsylvania school for the Amish is really relevant for our game against him.

Not that it matters...……..but History especially in the last decade is on UTs side. But I don't think the numbers factor in how bad UT was last year and a NEW Head Coach. Should be a good game. Lots of questions on both sides.

Just FYI....Tennessee is ranked 12th on Rivals based on the average recruiting ranking over the past 5 years. WV is 38....

I actually feel better about this game than I did GT last year

What I got from the OP:
Focus on the record of WVU.
Focus on the record of WVU opponents.
Now completely disregard the record of UT. 😂 But I get ya OP.

I'm not worried about losing, it's not a factor in the bigger picture for me. I just want to see if I'm watching a true fb team coached by a true coach.
I want to see a much better football team out there too. But by God, I wanna beat West Virginia more then anything right now. If(when) we beat a top 10 team on Pruitt’s debute, that will be the talk of the nation; and will finally give us true Vol fans who have suffered for so long some relief!!! GBO can’t wait to see y’all on Sept 1. ( the day our luck suddenly changes)

I’ve been thinking the same thing. We may get blitzed but last year before Gt I didn’t feel good at all!

In this thread: UT is not really a 4-8 team you can't judge them by last season
Also in this thread: WVU is garbage they were only 7-6 last season
Not really. You can recognize that WVU wasn't a great team and at the same time recognize that UT was a talented but very poorly coached team.

I can’t imagine what folks are like coming off a good season.

Tennessee should be worried about anyone with helmets and pads that takes the field until proven otherwise

I am fully aware of Florida’s issues. Right now, they stink. And if we were playing West Virginia I’d be concerned because right now, until proven otherwise, Florida stinks

The same is true for Tennessee whether people want to acknowledge it or not.

All of the talent those two teams supposedly have was last seen getting skull drug by anyone they faced

Look. I know the Will Grier hype is in full effect but he went 7-3 in the Big 12. They went 7-6 overall. Look at their schedule. It was a joke. They lost to every half decent team they played. Their O-Line returns 4 starters. Their O line was overmatched against quality competition. David Sills had 18 TDs against nobodies and didn't catch a single one after Grier went down. The defense struggled all year. They gave up 200+ yards on the ground in the Big 12. That was a healthy West Virginia team at full strength. Lol

Then look at all the injuries and drama we had last season. O line was decimated. Kirkland Out. Jennings Out, Chance Hall Out. No position group stayed healthy throughout the year. Down to third string on the O-line. Kids playing out of position. Incompetent leadership. Shoop couldn't get guys to learn the defense and we don't acknowledge just how terrible of an offensive coordinator Larry Scott was. You all saw it too. Team giving up on the coach because they knew he was gone towards the end of the year. That coaching staff was a cluster.

I just can't see how with a healthy UT team and at least adequate coaching we don't blow these guys out of the water. We brought over a veteran coaching staff with proven ability and I know stars don't tell the story but out of 22 projected starters I want to say about 18 or 19 of these guys are 4 star recruits or better. Over the past four years we've averaged a recruiting ranking of 14.75. Meaning give or take we are a top 15 team talent wise. There is no shortage of talent or experience on this roster. Outside of Will Grier we're leaps and bounds better at almost every position. I don't see why we're dampening our expectations. We can easily win 8 or 9 games this season without the Lyle handicap.

lol

I can't think of a single reason
