Butch says our D-line has "always" lined up a yard back. Is immediately proven wrong

If you can't see why bringing a man's wife into a football conversation, even hypothetically, is out of line then nothing I say will change it. We'll just have to disagree and move on. I'm sure you're sufficiently comfortable with your viewpoint to live with it.

Oh brother! Boro come on. Even I'm not offended by that and I would be the overweight wife in the pretend scenario.

It's stupid to be offended by that.

I just explicitly stated that I don't literally believe that about him, and trusted in the initial post that that would be apparent to any sane reader.

Now, with that technicality out of the way--that no one questions his theoretical spousal loyalty and love--do you want to discuss the concept of "mistreat"? Or no?

No I don't.

I never said you were being literal, just out of line. We take this UT Football stuff way too personally on here. I'm guilty of it, but I try to do it without mistreating other fans. I agree with his position on the treatment of the fans by our administration btw. Unfortunately, we allow it, so we've only got ourselves to blame.

Like I said...I'm sure you're comfortable with your hypothetical. I likely should have stayed out of it.

Yeah, he does have this fan base figured out. It is a bunch of dumbarses. At least many of those posting here

Man, you're wasting your time.
Anybody who read the statement knows damn well you didn't say anything negative about the guy's wife but a comment on his line of thinking. (The victim of what others always do to him)

One saying he's only a UT fan because it's an old habit and others are trying to recreate your statement to paint you in a bad light. Anytime people have to change your meaning to make their point, you're wasting your time.

I didn't change his meaning. I quite clearly said he obviously wasn't being literal. I just disagree with the premise.

Who is changing what now?

I'm only uncomfortable with it if he is offended, at which time I will offer an honest apology.

However, I would be expect him (and anyone else, for that matter) to recognize the hypothetical, not take it personally, and gnaw on what the comparison would illustrate in their stance.

A second "however"... I may need to repair my meter of what some people take personally, seeing how you guys take UT's coaching hires so personally as mistreatment.

Like I said...I should have stayed out of it. As unseemly as I found it, it was none of my business.

My apologies for jumping into an exchange where I had no business.

No apologies needed. I didn't take it personally. I just appreciate good discussions.

Why is anyone surprised by him saying something like this? He either does not know how we line up on defense or is not as smart as the typical fan.

We already figured out he is not as smart as a typical fan, not by a long shot! That does not exclude the possibility that he does not know how the team lines up on defence. He prolly never even noticed, and maybe nobody told him.

You married?

You seem like the type of guy that'd ask for a divorce when his wife gained weight. Bait and switch and all. Mistreating you by her personal choices. Etc...

No (terrible analogy), but if she suddenly turned into a terrible and unkind person, and it lasted for 10 years +, I would strongly consider it.

You'll need to define "terrible person", as I'm not sure coach hiring decisions should be equated to morality issues in this instance. Doing so is truly a "terrible analogy", and why I say that you seem to be personalizing this way too much.

They made bad decisions. I would say probably incompetent decisions. That doesn't equate to being terrible people or mistreatment of fans.

You probably need to back away slowly, get some distance, and form some perspective.

I'm mad at Tennessee for incompetently hiring guys that don't belong in a Power 5 conference, much less a historically Top 10 program. I'm not threatening suicide.

Some people seem way more disturbed about your opinion, than you do by the malfeasance of the administration.

Feel free to be angry. It seems a bit of wasted energy that could be spent better elsewhere. But by all means, live with the anger. If you'd just said that you're angry about hiring decisions made by a public university, I would have thought it odd, but not commented.

However, acting like the hiring decisions of a public university is personal mistreatment of you... That's seems a bit narcissistic and ridiculous.

(Unless you were up for Lane's/Dooley's/Butch's job? Were you?)

Your passive aggression is duly noted. If you want to call me worked, up, I'll gladly answer. I'll ignore if you don't want to actually do that. Its your choice.

I called no names. No need to, check nearly any thread and you'll see people calling out others for having negative feelings about this administration/ coach. It wasn't specifically in reference to you, just the pervasive avoidance of "live and let live" around here. We have a number of layman psychoanalysts who feel the need to label and diagnose anyone who disagrees with conventional sentiment.

It is the exact same for anybody posting something perceived as being a positive.
