Butch says it takes 6 to 7 years to build a program in the SEC

Look my young fans as of a fan of about 46 years you better be happy with 10 and 2 and 11 and 1 every now and then and competing for a playoff spot every few years be happy, Look at the Dawgs when they fire there coach and get what we have had they will be like us in the SEC you are not going to win 10 and 11 games a year.

I won't believe 10 or 11 wins from Jones until I see it.

Richt is 5-21 against tems with winning records since 2007. His W's come against losers, just like Jones. So arguably UGA has close to what UT has right now.

I said this long ago. Reader joined upon Butch's arrival, butchna joined upon his arrival and their post counts per day are ridiculous. Butchna has 3x the posts I have and I've been here since 2009.

You nailed it. I am a contract poster for the AD. I live in a trailer in area 51 with Jimmy Hoffa and Elvis. But Shhhhh gotta keep it quiet.

You say it like it's a crazy paranoid schizophrenic thing. :scare:

Dabo won the ACC in his third year. Also, their schedule is garbage.

Glad you brought this up.

Their schedule is garbage in the ACC yet it took him 7 years to build the dynasty yet Butch is suppose to do it in 3 while playing in the SEC.

The biggest thing made me think of this thread was Clemsons recruiting going on.

Smh, He wasnt talking about winning a natty or sec championship. He means a program or "dynasty". Look at auburn, They have good years but they are NOT a good program rn. If Saban were to leave Bama they would still be a good program that competes for championships for another 2-4 years with almost any coach. CBJ could win a Natty next season and then leave but the program would not be in great shape.

Don't let the dummies frustrate you.

Speaking of Auburn, remember when everyone compared Butch to the great Gus> how's that working out?

There's to many of them on VN, I tell ya.

People still say Debord was a bad hire too even though we improved in nearly every statistic. I guess people expect to score every drive.

I don't think Dabo is that great a coach, but he was in the ACC title game in year 2 and won it in year 4. How is it just now a good program?

You know improving upon a really bad coach doesn't necessarily make someone a good coach, right?

Butch Jones: It takes six or seven years in the SEC to build a program

An excerpt from the article...

While we live in a world of instant gratification, Jones — just in his 3rd season in Knoxville — scaled back expectations a little and indicated that he may need an additional three years at the least to fully bring the Vols back to prominence. Jones identified weak spots right now in the program such as the offensive line, defensive line and receivers.

for some coaches that is true

for some coaches that is true

It all depends on your definition for "building a program".

Majors took 9 seasons to win SEC.

Fulmer took 5 seasons to win SEC, 6 to win BCS.

Saban won SEC West in 2nd yr at Bama, SEC & BCS in 3rd year - only Urban @ UF and tOSU is in the same category.

What is the expectation @ Tennessee for a program that has arrived?

IMO it means top 25 every year, top 10 every other year, win sec east every 3rd or 4th yr, win sec 1-2 times per decade, compete for national championship (i.e. Playoffs) 1-2 times per decade.

This 6-7 years thing is downright silly. I can understand it would take 6-7 years if a coach is unable to sign elite classes for the first 4-5 years while he builds the program and it's reputation. But Butch has already signed elite classes. Guess what? If he doesn't start winning, that's going to change.

What does it mean to you to build a program?

Specifically - what does that mean?
