I give Jones a lot of credit for being able to manage perceptions and controlling narratives. I think its one of his better qualities. Not that I agree with all of it, but he has been successful so far in those efforts.

He didn't directly say that and I don't expect him to say that right now. But I also don't see a reason to put specific numbers on what everyone is waiting to see unless you are building a wall for the next wave.

UT is ranked as the 6th most underachieving program by an NFL talent analyst according to an article cited here earlier this week. We have brought in 2 top 10 recruiting classes in the last 5 years and we have not finished worse than 24, which was Jones first year. That class, as many here may remember, had almost as many 4* players as almost anyone ranked higher, there were just fewer scholarships given out. Also, the article did not include this years highly rated top ten class since it was published in Nov. if I remember correctly. We have thus recruited 3 top ten classes over the "magical" 6 years
Butch thinks is required. We don't have scrubs NOW. We have a top 10 roster NOW. Our goal should be to win all of our games starting NOW. We don't need no stinking 7 years...we are there NOW. I'm calling BS. Get us there, Butch!

He better hope it doesn't take that long because he won't be around to find out. With the Salaries these Coach's make these days not many if any will get 6-7 years at elite level schools.

Florida and CJM say hi. Clearly Florida didn't fall as far as UT, but they hit some rough times with their scrubby Muschamp.

It's stiff like this that make me dislike Jones. Quit making excuses and produce.

He's more worried about covering his underachieving butt than producing on the field.

The guy is a pro, he says what he means to say. And I'm sure it is exactly what he meant to say. He answers questions, saying the words that he intends to say.

On the other hand, he gets emotional on the sidelines, and if they were to "mike" him up, I bet that would be awesome. I'm sure, the edit button would be necessary.

I want the robot on the sidelines too, if the chart says go for two, Butch, go for two.

You, better not lose for a long time, your job here, is on the line.

I do agree although if you count the last 4 recruiting Rankins GA and UF should have more talent top to bottom. UF has the talent especially on defense. But Ala is the only team with noticeably more talent but also elite coach's at every position. They have at least 3 assistant coach's who could be HC's next season. To me that is what seperates us from the more elite teams. We don't have top to bottom top level assistant's that will be in demand by other schools.

Butch has a GA giving a weekly report to him on VolNation already.

And he evidently actions it.

Why not? It's the pulse of the whole VN and he's clearly heard the message of where fans (or negavols, if you prefer) think he screwed the pooch after each game.

i find it hard to believe he just came out and said it out of the clear blue.......my gut says it's probably in the vein of what he has described many many times as the sustainability of a program, not a team. he's made mention of this several times in discussing the programs at OU and Bama.

the ability to sustain success at a high level, over time, takes time to build to that.

i think this is probably more in line with what was probably meant, more than the notion of "hey folks, get ready, we're barely half way there, so sit tight, be patient we're gonna suck for another 3-4 years".

From what I can tell, Butch likes to red shirt as much as possible, with the talet we need to recruit,they may not be interested in a red shirt and a total of 5 years on the team, ready to go pro early. That could start around the first of the year.

I wonder how that impacts his plans.
