If I'm Butch, that's exactly the type of job I would take. UT is still on the hook for the $8 Mill. In 3 years or so he'll get another HC somewhere.

Good luck proving that. Which programs are hiring head coaches right now?

We can laugh all we want but the only party that looks bad in this scenario is UT... because it's paying Butch over $200K per month to NOT coach at UT.

I guess it depends on how you look at it. I see it as a troll job that UT is paying him (using your words) to fetch coffee at Bama.

For $200K per month I'd fetch coffee, as well.

This isn’t a troll job by Butch or Saban. It is more an indictment on the UT leadership (or lack there of) of guy we were paying millions of dollars a year to be our head coach that the market dictates has the skill set of an intern making less than 50k per year.

No, this is definitely a troll job by Jones and Saban. The market didn't "dictate" Jones could only make $35k a year; he voluntarily choose to get paid as little as possible while still fulfilling his contractual obligation to UT to mitigate his buyout. If he wanted, Jones could've found a coordinator gig somewhere making $500k-$1M per year. For example, Lane Kiffin was hired as Alabama's offensive coordinator for $700k in 2014 after he was fired in disgrace by USC. If it weren't for this troll job, we'd have $500k-$1M more per year to spend on our current coaching staff, our facilities, marketing, recruiting visits, etc. If we have to raise ticket prices to offset some of that buyout money, that might hurt our attendance, which hurts our recruiting & on-field performance.

Saban and Jones know exactly what they're doing, and that's deliberately sabotaging UT to keep us in the gutter. Perhaps we can make a legal argument that Jones obviously took this job in bad faith so we can get out of paying some or all of his $8M buyout
