Butch Jones did not fail

Dave Hart is the one that failed. I learned over the years that it is better to aim high and risk coming up short than to aim low and hit the target. Hart aimed low and hit the target. Jones was and is over his head.

I hope Currie aims high.

Your post makes no sense.

Actually Hart allowed Gruden to tell him no to a simple interview. I think that is the bigger offense of it. The fact he let a coach/candidate, who just happen to be a big name, turn him down for an interview is pure incompetence.

The sad thing for Butch is he was so close so many times. Just a few little tweaks and this could be a world different. Unfortunately he just can't seem to take that next step. And I think it's too late. I don't see any way he can recover now

Should have 11-1 at worst if not 12-0 in 2015 and minimum of 10-2 in 2016.

I disagree, mathematically. If he runs the table (minus Bama which is near statistically impossible) beating LSU and the rest of the East, then he could end the season 9-3. He will NOT be fired for overachieving. Plus, you should consider that after beating USC, playing at least in the same genre vs Bama and beating the rest week in and week out ... there would be a lot to cheer about for fans, and media alike.

Sure, there will be a sizeable fire him contingent. But, in such a scenario the AD would not be willing to burn $9mil and possible another buyout of a new coach. We would make a new years day bowl where we have been stellar under Jones. Win it and he heads to 2018 with a 10-3 overachievement rebuilding year. The argument would be that we could now contend for the SEC and playoff in 18'.

Do I expect it to happen. Not on your life. I witnessed 1st and goal at the 1/2 and the previous 3 years foibles. But, I would love it if it did. It would only happen with stellar coaching in the remaining 8 games. With that and a great roster 2018' would look hopeful.

Its not unprecedented. Stranger things have happened. I remember Tubberville getting another yr after Tarmac gate and how they went undefeated the next year.

Queue the "so you're saying there's a chance gif". All I'm saying is it is not impossible he's finished.

At 9-3, we don’t win the division. That’s a fireable offense in year 5.

If you want to play that game. Dobbs bailed him out plenty of times.

He was inconsistent, but man could he carry a team on his back, and turn defeat into victory. Dobbs was huge get out of jail card for Jones. We see just what kind of POS this offense is without a QB that has Dobbs ability to run.

That 2016 team should have been 11-3 at worst, with the two of the losses being to Bama.

2015 team should have 11-1 minimum. Butch literally could have been in Clemson’s Position the last 2 years.

My gut says Butch will end up coaching at some mid-major college and doing well. I imagine that a Cincinnati type school is as far as his ability allows him to be successful.

That's not the story I'm hearing.

Jones did not fail, in fact he rebuilt a program headed down hill fast. He succeeded in doing everything thing he was capable of doing and he did it well. Now, In the progression things, we hire a championship level coach to take us back to that level.

Wrong. He absolutely failed, miserably. When he was hired, he said his goals were to win championships. He never even sniffed that.

In that link that was posted about our coaching search after Dooley was officially canned, it was reported by multiple people that Hart was fully prepared to pursue Gruden but he was told no via the phone that Gruden didn’t want an interview.

Pretty weak by Hart.

That's idiotic. I'm not defending Butch but to say that it's all on him is absolutely false. I assume it was Butch's fault that we missed a thousand tackles against Oklahoma and Florida a couple of years back that could've saved the game?

Who teaches how to tackle?
Cmon butch you've been ridiculed enough for throwing players under the bus and you're still doing it??
Never gonna learn from any mistakes are ya??

That's what's idiotic

I love how some people think that players deserve zero blame. Thats beyond dumb.

They do
But don't act like they are solely responsible is the idea
Butch acts like he is blameless and it a'll on players
They do what they are taught and perform from the position they are put in

That being said - after it's all said and done - its still football and scholarship players should know how to block tackle catch and throw.
But time after time the players are put in horrible positions with horrible coaching to work with

Butch deserves the vast majority of the blame. But players are not just completely blameless.

Ed "The Ogre" Orgeron - the guy who sounds like Farmer Fran from "The Waterboy" and lost to Troy last week, somehow figured out how to beat Florida on their field.

Yep. Butch couldn't figure out how to do that.

Butch has failed on so many levels. I hate for him (but mostly for us). I just don't think he can (or will) recover.

The players will only execute as well as they are coached. It all goes back to Butch's assistant hires, his system, and their failures to develop the recruited talent.

There will always be some busts, and some kids who don't play up to their potential, but under Butch it's been an epidemic of underperformance, that goes straight back to Butch.
