I didn't read that far into the thread to see what you said about the building... That spot isn't far from Middle Valley, not too far for the rich Signal Mountain folk, either...

About the rink in Eastgate or whatever, I never knew we even had a rink, ever...
I'd like to visit and try my luck on the ice.
And if you need your building sprinkled, I'm your guy...

I wish you well blu. I'm a N GA resident, but grew up in Chattanooga. There have been a couple of ice rinks before, but they failed.

There's about 0% interest in hockey here, and no youth leagues/teams. Maybe this
could be an option/revenue stream for you if you get up and running.

Hamilton Place is hell, but it's all about location, location, location. You would have 100x more traffic there, but the costs would be significantly more.

Keep us updated on the progress.

Well - no where to play really. The one in East Gate could barely fit 10 people on it at a time.

No way :p.

Build it in Ooltewah while you can. Right on Little Debbie Parkway - that stretch of road is about to look like the shallowford/mall exit in a few years if everything goes to plan.

Yea, if he could afford to put it out there with the rich Ooltewah folk, it would probably be ok.
Wish I had some land out there I was sitting on...

You gotta think some farmers cashed in big time (some still can) with some of the houses out on the Snow Hill area or on the mountain.

It really would be a great spot at this point. All they have out here right now is every fast food restaurant imaginable, 2 grocery stores, several banks, verizon store, cracker barrel, Walgreens, Gamestop, UPS store, several miscellaneous stores (Beef O' Brady's is rocking), and a Walmart.

So no real 'attractions' up yet - but it is only a matter of time. First one to build something pretty decent out there will cash in big time I bet - Walmart is rockin from what I can tell.

Blu, start your own Sprinkler company. Buy me a truck, provide me tools, and pay me $20/hr and you've got something...

i have done a ton of landscaping irrigation in the past. you may be on to something. or do you primarily do like fire sprinklers? you guys are all right about the location, but at the tune of buying land and spending a couple of million to build, just does not sound real appetizing. i am not a rich man by any means, but i would be closer to north chattanooga, lookout mountain, and signal mountain people who would love to spend money on their kids and themselves to get into hockey or skating in general. like bassman said there just has not been a place to play hockey. so this in a sense is an entirely new activity to the chattanooga area.

Wouldn't go that far. As one of my elective classes at UT I took this very class, a class on entrpreneurship(New Business Ventures - I believe was the name). Best class and best teacher I had in the program. He was VP of Operations at Goody's(I know they suck but he was awesome). He was the opposite of what you speak of, all experience.

I'll correct my post to say many are taught by theorists not experienced. It is best to research the class and instructor. It was inaccurate to make a statement that appeared to be absolute, and I was wrong to do so.

we used to go to the one behind the Choo-Choo back in the early-mid 80's.... pretty fun... I don't know when it closed...

I know that Soddy-Daisy is one of the faster growing areas... is that where most of the population growth is coming from? Or is a lot of it coming from the Red Bank or Hixson side, too?

I know that the 4-5 mile stretch of 153 north of Hixson Pike has really exploded in the last 5-10 years...

But i'm with VBH. I was talking about the market study and potential capture rates. The schools are good at it and itching to do it.

that is very good information that you brought up. i had never thought of trying to get a school involved and to hear that they are itching to do it is exciting.

i am not sure where all of the growth is coming from but the hixson area near where the existing site is located is right in line with where that growth will eventually be. soddy daisy is another area that i think will be attracted to this location. it is right along their path when coming into town.

I'm not in Chattanooga as much these days, but I do know of several people who have moved to Soddy-Daisy in the last few years---something that I never would have expected. I guess with the "new" 27 extension you can make it to downtown in pretty good time, huh?

Red Bank has seemed pretty dead the last few times that I've driven through Dayton Blvd. or Mountain Creek? Also, I don't know of any large, new communities in the Hixson area, but I could be wrong...

your right about red bank. the lawmakers here in town have done just about everything they can to discourage people from other parts of town to even come down our streets. the speed cameras, police harassment, etc. don't make people real excited to come through here. they are building a license and driving center in town and that may help bring some people through town. until this mayer and his cronies are out of office this town will continue to spiral. they have certainly beautified the area but that doesn't bring and keep business in town.

with the housing market as it is there has not been a whole lot of new communities springing up, there there have been a few new subdivisions growing in the past few years in the hixson area. I would never build in soddy and try to stay away from there at all costs personally.

Give me 60 acres on Flat Top, a house on Montlake, or a home in Soddy over the McSubdivisions in Ooltewah or the break pad killing Signal. I find those latter areas to be gross and pretentious.

I'm not talking about the neighborhoods like Flag Stone with hundreds and hundreds of houses or ever the Hampton Creek neighborhood (with the golf course) with fairly small yards. Plenty of great places in Ooltewah with quite a few acres, while still being "Ooltewah worthy". I personally wouldn't like to live in Mountain Shadows out in East Brainerd or Flag Stone.

Ooltewah has much of the same - just more imo - plus it's closer to Knoxville and the mall.

Soddy Daisy is just too in the middle of no where for me and I hate the drive - you can find that in Ooltewah as well though if you desire. Plus - to top it off - Soddy Daisy... the name itself just makes me want to stay as far away as possible.

i don't care for ooltewah or signal either. i would rather be back nestled deep in the colorado mountains or back in northern cali amongst the redwoods over soddy. or red bank for that matter. but i guess we have to make the best of it. i agree with the 60 acres though. that can be pretty nice just about most places.

I think we should have a "VN, Chattanooga Chapter " meeting to discuss this and many other issues.
