I followed USC West very close and specifically remembering what made Pete Carroll teams great and quickly before and when they had elite recruiting... the practices were so intense and with tons of hitting that the players said the games were much easier than the practices. Ed Orgeron was a key D Line coach there during that time. I went to USC vs Ucla rally prior to the game the game... Orgeron got on stage and started yelling... "we are going to war!" Multiple times... back when college football was more intense in SoCal during those days. Culture means everything.Like Miami said about their practing.Beck said i go threw hell.It takes iron to sharpen iron.Tennesee knows nothing about.
Defensive line and offensive line physicality and toughness win games. The game evolves here and evolves there, but these things never change about football. Cristobal has built an absolute monster in the trenches. They have the defense to win it all and if they can control the line of scrimmage like they did tonight, no one will be them.
There’s plenty to get on Heupel about but this one always makes me roll my eyes. He yells at refs just like everybody else. If you ever watch him live, it sometimes even feels like he’s working the linesman too much.Well it starts with the head coach. There is no doubt that Mario has the fire to win at his Alma mater.
These playoff game just continue to show how uninvested Heupel appeared in games this season.
I know he isn’t the rah rah personality but he never once this year seemed to exhibit intensity and passion on the sidelines.
Mario chewed out the sec refs last night more in one game than I think Heupel did in 8 games.
People get emotional about their stance and either make stuff up or flat out don’t know what they are watching. There’s plenty to get on Heupel about but this one always makes me roll my eyes. It's ridiculous that we are still pretending these are student athletes!Miami is a pro team. It is becoming apparent, recruiting high school players and developing young talent isn’t a path to a championship. Buying mature talented players is the key. The joke is these guys are there for a college education. Just like the coaches, it’s all about the money!

We are small, slow, and soft. You dont fix that with the hiring of one coordinator. Our roster needs a pretty major overhaul and Huepel needs to have a significant "come to Jesus" meeting with himself and his staff on what kind of program he wants to have here. Pay very close attention to the portal over the next several days. If we do upgrade at several key positions, 2026 is going to be a rough year! I also think there are still some coaches on this staff that need to be handed their walking papers!I really don’t think we are as far off as some do. Calling the team soft, I can see that in some aspects, but I also see times where we show that we can be physical. I think that the Knowles hire is going to fix this problem. He’s old school and that’s what this team needs, a firm hand to push through to the next level.
I pray you are right. As we get into the good CFP games, it makes me think we are miles away. We are spending money recruiting boys out of HS while they are getting grown men in the portal.I really don’t think we are as far off as some do. I'm sure some do, and I didnt mean to make it sound that way. But have you noticed that we NEVER hear of players being ineligible due to grades anymore? Not just at UT but at any school! It used to be there would always be at least one or two every year. Now, do you honestly think its because players have gotten smarter? I'm sure the Thornton Center does a great job in assisting these guys, but come on! You and I both know what's going on. Either the NCAA has chosen to turn a blind eye to the academic requirements, or the curriculum has been so dumbed down for these players, they're basically majoring in eligibility and thats it.Because so many of them attend classes, make good grades and graduate, they are actually student athletes. The process fits the label. No need to mistakenly paint all of them with a broad brush
No, it's not that they're smarter, but that they are better students overall. There are firm requirements they must maintain in order to remain eligible. Your last comment is 100% false.I'm sure some do, and I didnt mean to make it sound that way. But have you noticed that we NEVER hear of players being ineligible due to grades anymore? In what way? What specifically makes them better students than before and more importantly, what has changed in college academia that has created a virtually 100% success rate in keeping these kids eligible? It seems highly suspect to me.No, it's not that they're smarter, but that they are better students overall. There are firm requirements they must maintain in order to remain eligible. Heupel is like a chubby kid playing Madden in his mom's basement with his friends.Well it starts with the head coach. There is no doubt that Mario has the fire to win at his Alma mater.

This our current OL/DL roster. Not losing but a few off of this list, (unless some are cut or jump ship), the point being, is we are not that small. Speed can’t 100% speak for that, but being physical can be taught, strength can improve/increase. If I was hired coached either of these positions, just by looking at what is here, I think I would be happy with what I had to work with. And that’s not including what I (as newly hired coach) get to pick from in the portal. All hypothetically speaking of course. We are small, slow, and soft.
