Build Team Like Cristobal Built the U

Bought not built- Miami’s defense was one of the worst in the league last year. This year half the starters (offense and defense) are portal guys.

Now- we could try to do the same thing- but the eval is the major factor or you end up like FSU after their big portal swings . Luck and chemistry is huge on this too.

Buying a team though comes with a lot of risks and is completely against the moral philosophy of Heupel- he doesn’t want to hurt kids feelings that he recruited by bringing in a ton of guys… I think we need a better balance with larger portal influence- but not to an ole miss or Miami degree.. it’s worked for them once… we made the playoffs our way too- once.

I pray you are right. As we get into the good CFP games, it makes me think we are miles away. We are spending money recruiting boys out of HS while they are getting grown men in the portal.
I hope I am as well! But this hire is HUGE. And I do still like the recruitment of HS kids to be developed into those men most teams go out and just buy (but we are going to do some of that as well). A kid that comes here and develops and stays…he wants to be here and those kids play hard. Just look at Bishop. I’d take a team full of him right now! In different sizes and shapes of course. lol

Kind of goes along with my post above

This our current OL/DL roster. Not losing but a few off of this list, (unless some are cut or jump ship), the point being, is we are not that small. Speed can’t 100% speak for that, but being physical can be taught, strength can improve/increase. If I was hired coached either of these positions, just by looking at what is here, I think I would be happy with what I had to work with. And that’s not including what I (as newly hired coach) get to pick from in the portal. All hypothetically speaking of course.
I trust my eyes. I trust what I see on the field in comparison to other teams. I dont care what the measurables say on the roster list. You and I both know those numbers can be exaggerated. We looked so "light" on the line of scrimmage this year on defense, compared to last year.

Easier said than done. Heupel has built UT to be a fast, finesse team. Physicality isn't his thing and it appears to be foreign to the vast majority of our roster. We're in a pretty deep hole at the moment.
We have had 2500+ rushing yards every year under Heupel aside from this year where we still had 2255. We lead the SEC in rushing 23 and 24, came in 2nd in 21. Last year we were running with everyone knowing we were running.

Defensively, I will agree. We fired Banks for a reason.

I agree to a point, but they be huge exaggerations. What I see on the field is truly a lack of discipline. Really hoping Knowles becomes our Cutcliff from the past. We just don’t seem to have fire! Not really motivated. It’s really hard to watch! I would have loved to had the opportunity these young men have. If I could go back knowing what I know now, I would have been Tennessee’s Rudy. You couldn’t have forced me to leave.

In what way? What specifically makes them better students than before and more importantly, what has changed in college academia that has created a virtually 100% success rate in keeping these kids eligible? It seems highly suspect to me.
Attending class, completing homework in a timely fashion and actual academic achievement as to grades. You mentioned Thornton. Most top level P4 schools have committed resources to help and aid in a student athlete's academic success. The use of tutors and actual TAs has grown exponentially at the institutions. As someone who had first hand experience as a student-athlete 40 years ago and now having viewed it directly on campuses, I can tell you it's like a night and day difference the resources the athletes have to be successful students. You can say it's "highly suspect" to you, but that's based on nothing but a belief of yours.

Defensive line and offensive line physicality and toughness win games. The game evolves here and evolves there, but these things never change about football. Cristobal has built an absolute monster in the trenches. They have the defense to win it all and if they can control the line of scrimmage like they did tonight, no one will be them.
That is what Alabama and Georgia has been doing for years. But they do not have a let down from year to year. That is how you build a program.

Bringing discipline back to the team will make a huge difference. Like you, I hope Knowles makes that difference for us. Even in '22, we were lucky the PF penalties didn't hurt us more. We have extended so many drives for the other team that it's a huge problem

Few schools have a recruiting base like “Pork & Beans”, ”Little Havana”, “Little Haiti”, “Liberty City” within 20-miles of their school. 60% of their roster comes from 20-miles of their school. Those communities fed Miami back in the heyday of the “U” Also.

Miami’s defense last year was just as bad as ours this year. It can be corrected. We need to quit wasting money on girls basketball. It’s ridiculous that we let Jakobe Thomas go

You can’t point to one time this year where he got in a ref’s ass on an egregious call or no call to the point of him daring them to throw a flag on him.

No one can honestly say that Heupel doesn’t come across as a pushover when it comes botched calls from the referees.
Again…. He yells at them all the time. You just didn’t see it on TV.

Built or bought physicality is a must. The ones that work at it get there. If you don’t you will not get there. GBO

Personally I think we need to pump the brakes on these types of discussions. No telling of what the next series of games will bring.

If Miami loses badly to the SEC team, they play next, this entire conversation will not fare well.

Just like the ones about the B1G lost out due to games yesterday,

Yelling at a ref in confusion is not the same as getting in their ass over botched calls or non calls.

Week in and out, he looks like a pushover every time he confronts a ref. And as someone who went to multiple games this year, you could see it in the stadium. Not just a TV spectator.

This isn’t some conspiracy that Heupel is very lackadaisical on the sidelines every week. It’s been widely talked about and documented all season.

Maybe Cristobal will be able to build a team that can supplant Duke as ACC champs next year.
Dumb because Miami can't control how their stupid ass conference determines it's champions. I'm sure Miami, just like any other school, would trade winning their conference championship game for beating Ohio State in the playoffs on the way to maybe playing for national championship.
