Buddy Green

a voice of reason, some Vol fans are trying to spin this as positive. Back in the day we would have elite coaches fighting to get here. Now the best we can do is Navy

You have no idea how F'ing hard it is for me to say that. I'm no sunshine pumper, but I have ALWAYS been an eternal optimist about my alma mater's football program.

The fact that we had to hire Buddy Green isn't the most damning evidence.

You can't ignore the fact that coaches are taking lateral positions at inferior programs--OR JUST f'ing QUITING.

When that happens....prepare thyself for what is to come.

There is nothing stable about any of it right now. So just keeping a guy in hopes something is stable really doesn't fly right now. It's bad. Bill Battle bad.

These are the Battle years... relived. If only we had a Hiesman runner up coaching somewhere else where he was about to win a national championship... and then return to his alma mater to pull us from the abyss.

But, that would be too over the top, even by Hollywood standards.

IF TRUE (a huge if), then it's probably a fairly 'safe' hire. My guess is that our defense will be average. Which is OK if (there's that word again) the offense can somehow develop a sustained attack that includes running the ball for more than a .1 ypc average.

This "perception" comes from rumors started by fans and media that think they are entitled to know whats happening in real time. I wonder what the perception would be if people would just let Dooley and Hart conduct their search in peace and then make their announcement.

Don't kid yourself. I'm not making this conclusions off of message board fodder or Knoxville media *****ing about not having access.

See my post before this one.

Austin Ward just tweeted that Green hasn't even int. yet. Multiple UT sources deny he's been hired. Can we stop trusting every hack rumor, yet?

Used to be a who's who of up and coming coaches like Gruden and Lovie Smith under Majors. Now look at who we settle for. But it's to be expected, no upper-tier coach wants to work with the Doolster.

So how do you know all these other coaches did not want to coach here. How do you know that Dooley did not choose Green because he fit the mold of what Dooley wants as a DC that was best for the job in ALL aspects. Maybe he wants a coach that will stick around after we get back on top and won't jet for the next job so we have to start over. YOU DON'T! Do you really think this program would be better off if we hired Randy Shannon and he left after next season for a head coaching gig?

My comment wasn't pointed at you or anyone in general. I just think we as a fanbase aren't helping our perception any. I have just started to do research on Green. Im not going to make a rash statement based on the the results he's had at Navy.

Griddie, a well respected poster and very knowledgeable person on CFB especially around North Carolina, had some great things to say about Green. Either way, if he is hired there is no sense in freaking out. Coach Dooley knows he has one year to prove he deserves to be the coach here. If he thinks Buddy Green brings the discipline, scheme, etc... to help him do that then he must think highly of him. 2012 will be the deciding fate of Coach Dooley, not the hiring of a DC.

Tell me who was the last big name coach fighting to get here? Johnny Majors is last one I can recall.

All of the bedwetters are worried about what the new DC's name will be and how famous it is.

The most important aspect in the Vols DC hire, is the guy's football knowledge ad ability to think on his feet on the fly.

None of the bedwetting girls that are running around the VN shrieking like their hair is on fire, have no earthly idea about Buddy Green and what he brings to the table. They cite statistics but fail to look at what his team's talent handicap is. That speaks volumes of the job that he has done going up against more talented teams in most games.

Nothing is official, clam down...just a quick look at his bio on Navy's site shows he was a finalist for the Broyles Award in '08 & '09. Not saying i would be cool with the hire, just saying.

Snippet from Hubbs...

Tony Grantham is Green's outside linebackers coach at Navy. That's Todd Grantham's brother (UGA DC) and he was a GA with Saban at LSU. One year as a defensive GA and one as an offensive GA.

So should we expect Niumatalolo to get an interview in 13?

Seems like the kind of guy who'd be revealed as our first choice all along... after a long and mysterious search that included names others recognize.

Still hoping Hart is not Hamilton, though.:hi:
