Buddy Green

We heard the same things about Dooley now and we lost to UK and a very lowly UK I might add first time in over 20 years. We need real coaches here, not hand me downs. UT use to be the school of big names and big stars, now look at us

Really. Please tell me who Chavis was before he was our DC. Also please Tell me who Fulmer was before he was our OC? Yeah we always hire the big stars.

How is a guy that has been an FBS DC for 10 years a "project coach"?

My guess would be that he can coach/develop players. That's required to hang around a service academy that long. Pretty smart athletes who can spot a fraud.

Don't know about schemes or recruiting, but player development is a need whether he's good at the other stuff or not.

You guys crack me up. If its not Dick LeBeau, the hire sucks. Come on now.

The hire might turn out to be great. What sucks is that....just like the HC search a few years ago....the perception is we have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to come up with someone who would take the damn job.

For an historically elite (we're #9 in all time wins) program...if you don't perceive this as a fall from grace, then you sir....have your head in the sand.

a voice of reason, some Vol fans are trying to spin this as positive. Back in the day we would have elite coaches fighting to get here. Now the best we can do is Navy

still haven't read his resume?

Not sure he can or will.

Twice nominated for the Broyles award is not mediocrity. His defense was pretty good with FCS and Division II athletes. If anything, it means he's an overachiever. Derek Dooley has not been an overachiever at Tennessee. Maybe Green can bring some of that to the staff.

I'm not excited about the hire, but ultimately he will be judged by the Tennessee defense's performance on the field.

That website is garbage... can't be true..

No, that guy has been dead nuts on every time. There are some other websites that post garbage. Put Pete Rozzell is da man....unlike Hyams, Basillo, Rucker, etc etc etc.

ESPN is reporting it...is that credible in your book?

Paaaaaaaaaarty!!!!!!!!!! Buddy ball is in town!

CJG's deal was three. It will be three... as will the hires that follow. Hart is investing in Dooley... he's ours.

Godspeed to Dooley and his new staff. I hope he proves this to be a good decision... for Hart's sake.
No, CJG's deal was for TWO - Austin Ward corrected himself after the initial posting saying he got confused with the new year.

This "perception" comes from rumors started by fans and media that think they are entitled to know whats happening in real time. I wonder what the perception would be if people would just let Dooley and Hart conduct their search in peace and then make their announcement.

Navy finished 86th nationally in total defense this past season. The Midshipmen finished 5-7 and endured a six-game losing streak — their longest since 2002 -- in which they four times yielded at least 35 points and twice gave up at least 56.

I think this screams of Hart setting us up for a coaching search in 2013. Budget based hire for 2012 as the man probably makes a 1/2 million dollars less than Wilcox did. Recruiting ties?? That is a joke to even discuss. When recruits hear the name "Buddy Green" and says "WHO"? All a sudden the Santos, Peters, Howards taking visits are serious concerns.

To those who said we could not move past CDD this year as we needed to have stability in the program, we need to keep CDD to hold together this middle tier SEC recruiting class can look at what is about to take place and realize they asked for it.

Derek Dooley is our HC. Tennessee already settled for mediocrity. This is just par for the course. What's worse is if they signed him to more than 2 years then mediocrity seems to be their style now.

I agree with what you're saying. My point is that Volnation posters seem to have the irrational belief that if we don't hire the best defensive coordinator of all time, then anyone else just sucks. Is Green a "win-the-press-conference" hire? No. Would I like to see a top-tier DC like Shannon take the job. Yes.

Green may very well turn out to be a great DC. The fact that he has been competitive at a school that it is damn near impossible to recruit to says something to me.

But hey, what the hell do I know.

Those were my words--verbatim--when we hired DD.

The guy has shown he is willing to stay at one place as a DC for a long time. I am sure he has had other oppertunities to move to HC or bigger DC positions but chose to stay. This is something that is needed to build a lasting program. We have to have consistancy in our Coaching staff if we are ever going to get back to the top. This coaching carosel does nothing but set us back everytime our team has to learn a new scheme and buy back into another coach. I can see what Dooley is doing. He is hiring a PROVEN DC that he does not have to worry about bolting for the very next job open. I actually think for the long term this is a very good hire if Dooley can get 8 to 9 wins next year. Dooley is building a coaching staff that will stick around.

There is nothing stable about any of it right now. So just keeping a guy in hopes something is stable really doesn't fly right now. It's bad. Bill Battle bad.

but what about his resume?

Used to be a who's who of up and coming coaches like Gruden and Lovie Smith under Majors. Now look at who we settle for. But it's to be expected, no upper-tier coach wants to work with the Doolster.
