Bryce Brown?

he does not hate the new coaching staff. geez.

I'm just stating "if" he does. People on here are acting like there's no chance and that he'd be an idiot if he left. I would say that hating a coaching staff would be plenty of reason to leave a program... not saying that's the case though.

That is a true art form, being able to talk out of both sides of your mouth.

I'm a little surprised BB is even considering KSU... talk about demoting yourself and risking your NFL future. He won't get anywhere near the same level coaching, competition, or exposure at KSU as he would at UT... although Snyder's return probably has the most to do with the decision. They guy has legend status in Kansas, and the field is even named after him.

Still, after years like this,

2009 - 6-6
2008 - 5-7
2007 - 5-7
2006 - 7-6
2005 - 5-6
2004 - 4-7

he's got a serious rebuilding effort in front of him; and he's no young buck at 70. His return probably does impress the Brown brothers, though; as they would have grown up during his legendary years in Kansas when he was being called a genius. In fact, if he hadn't retired, both of those boys probably would have ended up there in the first place.

All that said, one thing that surprises me is how all these folks suddenly seem to think BB isn't all that great, and losing him wouldn't amount to much of a loss. Most of these same folks droned on and on about him being the best player in his class, despite not being from a very competitive high school conference, division, or state. According to most Vols and Vol sites, he was the greatest thing since sliced Colonial. Now, he's expendable? Will the opinions change again if he stays?

So you're OK with losing as long as the players "love UT?"

I didn't say anything about being okay with losing. I said if players don't want to be here any longer let them go. Get players who will play because they love the University. Some of you people love to put words in other people's mouths. Read carefully before responding.

And how do you propose we measure this "love" for the university?

Players love anywhere where they win. Winning is the only thing that matters.

This.

9 times out of 10 players that win here will love it here. The experience is much better for everyone when the vols win.

If you get great players consistently, they will win, and the love for the school will follow.

I just saw that Chris Low posted that if Bryce Brown leaves, Montario Hardesty could replace him!!!! lol Get a clue!!

College Football Rumors - Rumor Central -NCAA - ESPN

We told you earlier this week about the possibility that Tennessee tailback Bryce Brown could transfer to Kansas State in order to be reunited with his brother, Arthur, who recently decided to transfer there from Miami.

While it's still way too early to tell if Brown will decide to transfer, or if K-State would be his destination if he did, who would fill the void for the Vols at tailback if Brown were to leave?

Montario Hardesty is an obvious pick, considering he very well might be the starter even if Brown is still on the roster for the 2010 season. But three other guys to keep an eye on are Tauren Poole, Toney Williams and David Oku. Chris Low explains why:

FAIL

This is an interesting development. So according to that rumor, he "might be the starter next season?" Most sports writers are predicting he will start for UT in 2010, but perhaps that writer is basing his opinion on the fact that playing for both a college and NFL team during the same season has yet to be done with a high level of success. Also, I may have missed the update on his status, but I'm assuming he was indeed granted a 6th year of eligibility?

If you are a fan who has watched this team closely then the most you should be able to say is that BB "might" be the starter. I would contend that in limited PT Poole showed more flashes of the skills that make a top tier SEC RB than Brown did. IMHO, Kiffin wanted Brown not only to play but to be the starter. Short of that he made him the back up. However, his opportunities to make an impact diminished as the season went along. You could argue it was his injury or MH's play... but just as easily his ineffectiveness in competitive game situations.

I've repeated it ad nauseum... but I never saw him make an SEC level cut all season long. Poole did it on virtually every carry he got. BB constantly ran up blockers backs. He didn't seem to make good reads.

In short, there is still a considerable chance that he will NOT be the starter for UT next fall.

I was referring to Hardesty, not Brown. Check out the link to Rumor Central.

Bryce will NOT be transferring anywhere unless he gets relegated to 3rd string or lower in the HB depth chart. He isnt a dumb kid. He is 2 productive years away from being a 1st round NFL pick.....no need to add another year onto that by sitting out a year to transfer somewhere. I fully expect him to step up and claim the #1 RB spot and not let it go until after he leaves for the League. 99.9999% of fans have NO IDEA how truly banged up he was last year, however, he still managed to run for 500+ as a true frosh, while also being behind a RB in Hardesty who just happened to have, arguably, one of the top 3 most productive seasons in the history of UT RB's ( taking into consideration MH's durability, leadership, big play ability and the fact he didnt fumble once all year long). BB will be a star here at UT. The idiot "rumor" section at ESPN that halfway reported this is ridiculous.

You're picking one factor to prove that there is no way he would transfer. The factor you describe, getting into the NFL more quickly, is plausible and could reasonably be true. However, there are so many other reasons that could be at play that you can't know that "Bryce will NOT be transferring anywhere unless he gets relegated to 3rd string or lower in the HB depth chart."

Maybe after being away from his home state for a while, he wants to be back home. One of his reportedly best friends Chris Harper left Oregon for that reason and is now playing for KS.

Maybe he liked Kiffin and doesn't gel as well with Dooley and the new staff.

Maybe they've decided that they're going to try a run by committee approach to keep him healthy when he would rather be an every down feature back.

Maybe he did want to go to UM to play with his brother but there was a log-jam at RB there. Now, at KS that obstacle isn't there.

Maybe he doesn't see getting into the NFL one year early as being as important as other factors.

Just sayin'.
