Bruce Pearl To Retire from Auburn

Just took the time to watch his rather lengthy, overproduced coaching epitaph. Talk about cringeworthy. And then the ending...good grief. Just do like everyone else and hold a press conference. Leave it to Bruce to create a full-blown short-film documentary to announce his retirement.

He has never hid from what he is, first and foremost, a showman. That is his giftedness.

Fair enough, I guess. Just seems like a total attention whore, which he is, to go out when he did and with that kind of production. It isn't really a surprise. Like you said, he's a showman of the highest order. A spectacle was to be expected.

Doubt you were excited, each year he got worse, it has worked out very good here at UT thankfully
Why wouldn't someone have been excited? Granted, he was no sure thing. Then again, only a handful are, if that. That last year at UCF was highly abnormal. It's a testament to Heupel that he had as many wins as he had.

No, local news stations here have not confirmed any run for a political office in the state. The Auburn AD said he will have an advisory position with the athletic dept. How long that lasts who knows.

Probably not as long as Bruce’s run as the VP position in sales for HT Hackney after he was blown out by UT.

Let’s not kid ourselves…Bruce was a pretty damn good basketball coach too.

Fortunately, we currently have own of those ourselves at UT, and I would bet good money that CRB will bow out very modestly when he retires. Without judging others, I’ll just say that I greatly appreciate the quiet strength from Coach Barnes. The kind of coach you want your son to play for.

Who said he wasn't a good basketball coach?

No one has really stated such a thing. The disdain he has gotten from fans is well deserved. He proved to be the sleazy coach some made him out to be during his time here. Those feelings about him were well deserved from his tenure as an assistant in the Big 10. We were all enamored by his ability to coach our team up, but he ultimately couldn't shed his shady dealings. No doubt he could coach his ass off, but I don't want him anywhere near this program going forward, no matter how much he loved it here.

The relationship between Bruce and Auburn is going to get really awkward if and when Auburn fires Stephen.

Pearl knows that he will always have a spot at UT, in that if things turn sour with Auburn he can always come back and latch on to Tennessee as a "VFL". I mean he already put those type feelers out the way he praised us in NCAAT coverage like in 2023 when we made the EE and he was on with Parker praising us. I'm not saying it's not genuine, just saying he knows he has a home here in some capacity.

Perfect timing. Give him a few years to rest and relax And take back over when Rick decides to hang em up.

Pearl is one of the top coaches in the SEC and college basketball. I've warmed up to him over the years since he left. He took Auburn to bring a national power. It'll be interesting to see if they can maintain it or if it was just the Bruce Pearl effect which would even more solidify him as one of the greatest Auburn coaches of all time. He probably should've had a national championship. At the time I was hoping he didn't win it.

That could be the unfortunate outcome to arrangements like this. Maybe he's sticking around to try to help recruit. On the surface Stephen Pearl looks like a bad hire, but maybe he has learned a lot. Stephen always seemed to be a good guy eventhough he should not have played over Maymon.

Disagree, I don't think Stephen (F#ck!ng) Pearl is a good guy. He was born on 3rd base, but acts like he hit a triple. The opposite of a good guy, imo
