Bring back the Beer Barrel

Given what is made in both states, the whiskey barrel would be more appropriate. That is not going to happen either.

I agree with this

But I also don't blame PC for this decision. More likely kentucky was tired of promoting a battle for something they never win.

So it's not going to come back until Kentucky makes this a real rivalry again.

trophy for the UT/Kentucky football rivalry. The last time we played for the barrell was in 1999. It was a decision made by C.W. Newton and the UT AD, Doug Dickey. It was stopped because two UK players were killed in an alcohol related accident.

I say bring it back. It was a 74 year tradition that made the game a little more important for both teams. I have no problem with it.

What do you say?
The tradition actually never ended. UT just never bothers bringing it to the game because we just have to haul it back every time.

If we brought it back maybe Kentucky would beat us more than once every three decades...Seriously, just rename it. I wonder where that thing is right now..

Then don't call is the Beer Barrel. Just be politically correct and call it simply the "Barrel" instead. I just want our permanent trophey back.

Agreed. Have a trophey of some sort be it a barrel or an old long rifle. SOMETHING!

The barrel doesn't have to come back, but this game should be played for something... some object for UT to hold on to for a year or 20.

I agree with you, but it won't happen. Too PC a world we live in. Lame.

However, wasn't it the Battle for the Whiskey Barrel, not beer?

Like the double standard of having players who aren't legally allowed to drink playing for something called "The Beer Barrel"? It was a bit different when the drinking age was 18, but that was changed in 1984.
Who cares?? I mean if an 18 yr old can go to war and die for his country. Then why can't they play for an old wooden barrel that was once used to store beer in.

The Bourbon Barrel was the trophy between KY and IN unless I am mistaken. I never completely understood this. It was retired around the same time as the Beer Barrel.

We could call it the Border Barrel...that makes sense, gets the trophy back, and isn't offensive to anyone.
