It's in no way a fault to not be good enough to be QB1 at Tennessee. It is a blessing to be talented enough to be considered for the position.

I've been predicting it, but I thought he'd finish the season first, so he could be a grad transfer.

I was skeptical of bringing Milton on with 4 QBs on the roster already, but Heupel made the right move. We'd be stuck with only 2 QBs if we hadn't brought in Milton.

As for Maurer, I've always thought he'd do better in a high-level G5 program like Houston, Memphis, or UCF. He'd have an easier shot at becoming starter and I think he's the type of guy who learns better thru experience. I still think he can become a very good QB, but once we brought in Bailey, I never thought he stood much of a chance of starting here. Hooker and Milton have pushed him further down the depth chart, but Bailey is younger than him and seems pretty solidified above him (under 2 different coaches now!)

He does have issues with maturity and his tweets have showcased that. I'm not holding that against him much; he is like 20 years old and I was probably no different at that age, but in a leadership position like QB, it's more difficult to get away with that than at say, CB or RG.

I wish Maurer the best of luck. I'd like to see him succeed somewhere.

I really would not be surprised to see Bailey go pretty soon also. I think this staff may only be giving lip-service to an open competition. If Bailey doesn't start this year, he very well may never be a starter. If QBs are transferring and winning Heisman trophies, why spend your entire career on the bench? I would imagine there are other coaches who will think as highly of him as we did before CJH recruited Milton.

Yep, all four of our qbs have legit talent and could start somewhere. Whoever loses out should leave.

He has nothing to lose by seeing if the job falls to him this season. If he's on the team he loses a year. If he's not on the team he loses a year.

As it is, if he leaves, we are stuck with 2 quarterbacks who couldn’t be the starting quarterback at the schools they left.

I’ve always preferred more pro-style quarterback play, so if the qb choice was based on who looks tougher to take hits while running, I’m disappointed. This situation lessens my excitement about, and confidence in, the new Coach.

Agree with most of your post but the bold isn't true. Both lost their jobs. Milton lost his because he was very inconsistent. His inconsistency didn't improve at the pace they wanted and was costing them games.

If I have the story straight, Hooker won the job and was later injured. Fuente chose to stick with his replacement after he got better. I have read comments that Fuente's decision was criticized by a significant portion of the fan base and media. Many seemed to think that Hooker should have remained the starter.

Either way, both needed to improve whether they competed for the job at their old school or UT. Both have talent. Milton is pretty much a "pro-style" QB who can give you some power runs. He didn't look to have very good escapability at Michigan. Hooker completed over 60% of his passes at VT while being the regular starter. That demonstrates consistency and experience that none of the others have. Much of his rushing yardage seemed to come on plays where he broke the pocket rather than designed runs. He's different than Dobbs but in that one aspect he's somewhat similar. He looked good when the pocket broke and he had to work the open field.

Only been through 4 days of practice, so that would be a narrow brush in my opinion.....and not sure what about my post defines him leaving as self-restraint

Not saying you are wrong. But what makes you think Bailey is ahead of Hooker? Passing wise, they're fairly similar except Hooker has proven it in about 15 starts. And then Hooker can run while Bailey cannot.

Just based on the videos we've been able to see, Bailey has been less accurate and has less zip on the ball than the other 2. I will support any of them- And to a large extent we're trying to make guesses based on about 10% of practice plus whatever "history" we pull into it. But just from that video... he doesn't look as good.

Not sure where my criticism is, I only stated facts. But I bet you that he couldn't guide a raft with (6) 300lb Lineman down a Class V Whitewater river......dont criticize that which you or him are incapable of doing......

Thank you for the info. Statement still true, maybe you would rather I said “would no longer be starting qb”, rather than “couldn’t”, but they lost their starter positions for whatever reason, so couldn’t be the starter, and left.
